Just a quick poll...how many players are you currently paying? I just noticed that I tend to accumulate transfers and youth pulls without firing enough players, and that I now have a metric ton of players (read: 31) on the roster. What should I try to drop this to?

I have usually just kept a roster of 22 - my A team and my B team.

In order to cut expenses this season, I will likely drop 1 or 2 of them and play a couple of guys in both league and friendly matches each week. I figure I need 2 GKs, 3 CDs, 4 WBs and 4 Ws (8 training slots), 4 CMs, and 3 or 4 Fs. I play with 3-5-2, 4-4-2, and 4-5-1 depending on the opponent.

24, 3 of whom are on the transfer list or will be in the next few days.

24 counting my coach who still plays regularly for me.

I look at anything over 22 as a waste of wages....even including your coach who can always play in friendlies.

I'm not convinced that my coach can run, much less play. :)

Well there is that Cup thing...

And some folks here take the BS Cup more seriously than even that... ;)

I have 22 on the roster right now, enough for two teams. I'll probably get one more player though as my coach is worthless on the field.

who doesnt play at least one of his players twice in a week?? During cup runs most will have multiple players playing twice. Its good for form too.

Totally. My top two forwards are winger trainees.

But playing twice a week doesn't do anything for form. Though it does impact experience...

Well, *I* don't have any players playing twice a week...like I said, I have too many players and I was under the (apparently mistaken) impression that that was a bad thing...that it'd hurt stamina or unduly increase injuries or something like that. But now I'm going through my roster with hedge clippers. :)

maybe its an old wives tale, but people do insist that playing twice aids form...

I'm down to 18 right now, though I'll probably be back up to 20 or 21 a few weeks into the season.

I usually keep anywhere from 20-23 players, Coach included.

I play quite a few of my non-trainees twice during the Cup. When I get booted from the Cup, my B team scrubs will take over those critical positions and leave the league matches to my A team.

I have 23 including my player/coach. Although I am selling one player.

What about any negative effects? Such as injuries, cards, etc?

It's a risk reward type of situation, especially if you want to advance in the Cup.

In the current ecomony, you have to get the revenue anyway you can.

Well true, but I mean play in general. Most teams on here seem to be playing with 22 players and doubling guys up, even when not in the Cup. I roster a large amount [albeit at low low wages in D-VI] because I couldn't afford to risk missing a starter or trainee to injury by playing twice a week.

I do the same thing with aquiring too many youth pulls. If they're not profitable then they are a money drain. Drop em! I got 23 players right now.
