I believe his contract has one more season in it and if so, Durkin needs to be sold this summer. I’m sure this will be the next Kitchen or Hamid though.

Given the accolades Durkin is receiving and given the interest shown, by I believe Benfica, in the offseason you're right. Assuming Canouse has recovered, he and Moreno can hold down the D-mid fort, but in sharply different ways. Sell Durkin this summer or in the offseason for cash. His skillset and upside are light years ahead of Kitchen or Hamid, both of whom had holes in their games that were and are being exposed in Europe. Kitchen was never more than a better than average MLS D-mid, his career in Scotland and Denmark proved that. Hamid's major flaw is distribution. The fact that he's glued to the pine in Denmark in a league that is the equivalent of MLS merely reinforces the fact that what made Hamid so special here was his shot stopping ability, a trait that he excels at and was necessary because of the shambolic DCU defense during most of his career here. If your defense isn't requiring 3 or 4 wonder saves a match, then athletic shot stopping doesn't become the paramount concern in your 'keeper. That's one of the reasons here why Clark occasionally has a wonder game, like Annapolis, his shot stopping ability is excellent, the rest of his game is very average. Ousted is far more well rounded, but the shit defense in front of him puts him in situations where shot stopping is the paramount skill required.

Apologize for the digression. But I think it's important to distinguish between Durkin, who has the ability to be something really special, and Kitchen and Hamid who are good players but whose competence on largely incompetent DCU teams made them look to be better than they really are.

I wasn't aiming to compare the players but merely the FO losing out on players with European ambitions without getting anything in return.

So none of those people at the airport were DCU fans. lol

And I'm going to predict that Olsen will slot Rooney in at right back.

Why do we need a 2nd, mediocre, forward when our quality is in midfield? Give me a lethal finisher who can spot a pass with pesty and technical midfielders flying by and around any day of the week, it's a recipe to shred defenses.

Good point, DCU erroneously believed they could retain both by overpaying for Kitchen and tugging on Hamid's heartstrings. Major miscalculation on both accounts. FWIW, both Durkin and Canouse > Kitchen.

I know of at least a couple of STHs that attended based on their FB posts with photos taken with Rooney.

Other teams would kill for the "mediocrity" Mattocks has displayed thus far this season.

My money is on reversion to the mean, do you think Mattocks is a 20-goal scorer? He has tied his career high already but if you want him on the field he'll get plenty of opportunities in a compressed schedule feasting on defenses that have dealt with Rooney for 60+ minutes, but changing the system of play to cater to a 2-month hot streak is not what I would do.

Let's also recognize, Mattocks' goals have not resulted in a lot of points - 6 points in games he scored (if I count correctly) and DCU with the worst PPG in the East.

Nope! But the chance is definite there that he has a career year this season. The point I'm making is that thus far he's been anything but mediocre. There haven't been a ton "missed chances" other forwards in MLS would have routinely finished that he hasn't.

We let in a lot of goals. So, like our beloved Benny, you'd like DCU's forwards to defend more?

Let’s keep the SG stuff out of this thread.

When do you think Rooney will play his first match?

Weren’t we second to worst last season on some super technicality?

We are currently dead last in the combined table (with only 13 games played).

We’ve been the worst for a few years now. James

That’s just incorrect. We were a playoff team and regular season conference champs once from 2014-2016. Even if you want to count 2018 with our current unbalanced schedule and lack of games, that’s 1.5 years which is hardly a “few”.
