And now Peter Leung says that they will consider it. By next year, he'll declare that it's the best training ground Eastern have ever used.
In addition to signing CHAN Siu-Kwan, Australian striker Harry SAWYER joins Wofoo Tai Po on loan from Davao Aguila FC of the Philippines.
Hong Kong Pegasus will start their pre-season training today. They have lost a few players but have also signed many. They have a full squad of 24 players and aim to win trophies this season.
Hong Kong Pegasus announced their 2018-19 squad and Chan Siu-Ki is listed as a central defender. He must be making the move as he ages and slows down. It is a way for him to extend his career. It is a pity but there are now upcoming young strikers who can take his place in the Hong Kong team.
Lau Hok Ming joins Southern. This is not a significant story given the player but here's why I think it's important. Lau is the second player, after Law Chun Ting last week, to have agreed to join Hoi King earlier in the summer and then sign with someone else. Law stated last week that he decided not to sign with Hoi King because of their financial uncertainty. This is concerning considering the fact that we have heard very few rumours about Hoi King's squad and perhaps now we know why. There are five weeks until the season starts and their financial are still uncertain. Hard to see how they will be competitive next season.
I thought HKFA examined Hoi King's financials and requested a guarantee before issuing them with a HKPL club license. Now it looks like we will only have 9 clubs in the new season. Maybe we should ask Benfica Macau or Chao Pak Kei to join us. Given the Macau 11-a-side season is over.
Hoi King played a friendly with HK Pegasus at Kowloon Tsai Park today. HK Pegasus won 4:0. Hoi King coach Wong Yiu-Fu said the club has no financial problems but they have struggled to find players. They will try to loan a few foreign and youth players.
He can say what he wants but it seems clear that they two are related. Who is going to quit their full time job to play for Hoi King when the club will likely lose every match, the salaries are likely comparable and they may have to find another job next summer?
Emmet Wan has re-joined KC Southern District. Last time he played for the club he was on loan from Kitchee, but this time he is joining as a free agent.
They also forgot Palestine as well. With the re-draw completed, Palestine will join Group A of the men's tournament whilst the UAE joins Group E (South Korea's group.) I still think Hong Kong will get a result against Laos and Chinese Taipei, however they will need to get a result against the hosts Indonesia and Palestine to advance which will be quite a tough task for Kenneth Kwok's team.
I think getting a result against Chinese Taipei will not be easy. Also most likely Laos will be the bottom team and results against them will not be counted in the third place calculations. So winning against Laos maybe meaningless in the end.
HKFA CEO Mark Sutcliffe said they have received over 100 applications for the Hong Kong NT coach position. They have finished interviewing potential applicants last week and will soon announce the new coach's identity. They wanted someone with national team coaching experience and familiar with Asian football. Some people said Tony Adams (former Arsenal captain) made an application. But due to his lack of experience I think he won't be appointed.
https://scmp.com/sport/hong-kong/ar...f-executive-mark-sutcliffe-leave-his-role-two Hong Kong FA chief executive Mark Sutcliffe to leave his role in two months after contract expires I am sorry to see him leave. He has been good for HKFA and the development of youth and women's football in HK. Brian Leung should be the one leaving HKFA.
It will be interesting to see who the HKFA had interviewed for the role. Still, personally hoping its Josep Gombau.
In addition, here is the full fixtures of the 2018/19 season of the Hong Kong Premier League starting with Lee Man Vs Kitchee SC on August 31st. http://www.hkfa.com/upload/download/2018-19_Fixture_FullSeason.pdf
Perhaps they want him to leave because of philosophical differences. Sutcliffe has said before that he wants to pursue more aggressive strategies to promote the HKPL. However, as we know, last week Leung completely savaged the league by saying that there was "no way forward". Sounds like Sutcliffe lost the war at the HKFA.
https://www.scmp.com/sport/hong-kon...y-white-new-football-manager-former-guam-boss SCMP says Gary White is going to be named Hong Kong national football team manager.
That's an interesting yet a surprising choice. Gary White would've been my second choice and he does show a great track record in terms of improving national team rankings especially with how he shaped up the Guam and Chinese Taipei national football teams. Wofoo Tai Po launches their team line up today. Notable signings are Australian striker Harrison Sawyer, Au Yeung Yiu-Chung, Chan Siu-Kwan, Lam Ngai-Tong and Michel Antunes Lugo. They want to have enough players to take on both local HKPL and AFC Cup. I think to be honest they don't need to worry too much about AFC Cup. 4.25 Sports Club of North Korea is the only club that poses a threat in that competition.
