Sapling Cup Kitchee 1:1 KC Southern District R&F Guangzhou 1:2 Hong Kong Pegasus Dreams FC 1:0 Eastern Longlions
Champions League groups are set: Kitchee should hope that Brisbane Roar qualify for their Group as Australian teams tend to prioritize league play over Asian competition. Kitchee may not make it out of the group but at least it gives them a chance to win a game at home and earn some prize money. Eastern, if they somehow qualify, will be an easier group than last year as it features an Australian team.
HKPL R&F Guangzhou 1:2 Eastern Longlions Marko Perović and Bruno Anderson da Silva Sabino have both left R&F Guangzhou. Coach Marek Zajac said he will try to recruit more Hong Kong local players in the upcoming transfer window. Brazilian-born defender Clayton Michel Afonso returns to Eastern Long Lions from his loan spell at BC Rangers. In addition, it looks like he is set to be registered as a local player once he obtains his Hong Kong passport. Centre-back Michel Clayton returns from Rangers to Eastern, and is expected to receive his HK passport soon. Will be registered as local player after that. pic.twitter.com/Bn7IrQNoxB— Football in Hong Kong (@offsideHK) December 20, 2017
Coach Kim Pan-Gon quits as national team manager role to take a technical role within the South Korea national team. http://www.scmp.com/sport/hong-kong...ong-kong-head-coach-quits-ahead-crucial-asian This is going to be a massive blow for the national team considering that they still have to play North Korea in a crucial Asian Cup 2019 qualification match next year.
This is a positive, literally. Kim's tactics were very negative. You can argue that this is the reason why we're going into North Korea needing a win instead of a draw. The HKFA now has the opportunity to hire someone who can organize the team to play in a more positive fashion with three months to prepare.
It will be very interesting to see who they will bring in as the new head coach and hopefully can take the national team to the next level. I do expect the assistant coaches to take temporary charge during the HK-Guangdong Cup early next month. Speaking of the Hong Kong-Guangdong Cup, looking at the preliminary list which I posted, I wonder which players will make it into the final squad?
Another big news for HK football this Christmas. Head coach Kim Pan-gon about to resign; rumours that Kevin Bond is on the list of potential successors https://t.co/O6fSTvSRzj— Tobias Zuser (@duwenzhe) December 26, 2017 The only rumour I've read so far. I hope it's not Bond. While I'm not opposed to hiring someone who isn't familiar with the typical Hong Kong player's strengths and weaknesses, I feel that hiring someone from within the Hong Kong football world would be advantageous. Any outside candidate would need to have a strong track record of getting a lot out of very little.
Here is the final 21-man squad named for the HK-Guangdong Cup: Goalkeepers: TSE Ka-Wing - Dreams FC YUEN Ho-Chun - Sun Pegasus FC CHAN Ka-Ho - Sun Bus Yuen Long FC Defenders: TSUI Wang-Kit - BC Rangers CHEUNG Chi-Yung - Sun Pegasus FC FONG Pak-Lun - Sun Pegasus FC LAU Hok-Ming - KC Southern TSE Long-Hin - Lee Man FC CHAK Ting-Fung - Wofoo Tai Po FC LEUNG Kwun-Chung - Wofoo Tai Po FC Midfielders: CHENG Chin-Lung - Dreams FC WONG Tsz-Ho - Eastern Long Lions LI Ngai-Hoi - Sun Pegasus FC WU Chun-Ming - Sun Pegasus FC Michael LUK Chi-Ho - KC Southern NGAN Lok-Fung - Lee Man FC TAM Lok-Hin - Sun Bus Yuen Long Forwards: LO Kong-Wai - Eastern Long Lions Tommy CHUCK Yiu-Kwok - BC Rangers LAI Lok-Yin - BC Rangers YUEN Chun-Sing - Wofoo Tai Po FC
I am glad Kim is stepping down AND has found alternate employment. I hope we get someone who is tactically sound while also place a strong emphasis on fitness and youth development. I think It will be very hard to find someone who has these abilities from overseas while still staying within HKFA's budget.
https://news.mingpao.com/ins/instantnews/web_tc/article/20180102/s00006/1514882722221 Rumour that Diego Forlan will join Kitchee for the rest of the HKPL season and ACL!!!
Kitchee confirm that they've contacted him. I understand this move from a marketing point of view. I don't understand it from a football point of view because the value that he brings does not outweigh the logistics of fitting him into the foreign quota. Kitchee will probably name Vadocz, Fernando and one of the two Kim's as their foreigners. That leaves one spot remaining. Is a 38 year old attacking midfielder going to be a bigger difference maker for Kitchee than say, a winger like Jared Lum, a striker like Lucas Silva or wide midfielder like Andreas Lam? Look, if he signed for any other Hong Kong club then I'd have no reservations about it because none of them have as much quality as Kitchee. But this is Kitchee we're talking about...
Igawa Yusuke, formerly of Kawasaki Frontale, has joined Eastern Longlions. As you can see in the picture he will wear no. 41.
The deal is done. Forlan will arrive in Hong Kong on 10 January and will play for Kitchee until May, which means he will play in the ACL. Forlan, Vadocz, Fernando and Kim Dong-Jin are currently most likely to be Kitchee's foreigners. But the news is that Kitchee is still looking for one midfielder with international experience. Rumour was Tim Cahill but he has declined, I think Cahill is just one target out of many and Kitchee is still looking.
