I'm watching the film High Fidelity right now and it reminded me of how much I liked the thread pre-crash. So like Bruce and the E Street Band, it's back. -------------------------------- Top 5 songs that I don't need to hear right now 1. Hero Enrique Iglesias 2. Hero Mariah Carey 3. Superman Five For Fighting 4. Only Time Enya 5. That Toby Keith song I'm perfectly okay with U2's Walk On --------------------------------- Completely forgot all the semi-big actors playing minor roles in that movie.
Top Five Band Reunions That I Would Pay Good Money To See (Even If They're Only In It For The Money) 1. Talking Heads 2. The Smiths 3. The Police 4. Husker Du 5. The Housemartins
One of the mose amusing things I heard on the radio today was k-rock dedicating their next song to the hijackers and playing "Lake of Fire".
Top 5 Bob Marley songs commemorating 9/11 1. One Love 2. Redemption Song 3. So Much Trouble in the World 4. Get Up, Stand Up 5. War
Top 5 New York movies 1. Vanilla Sky 2. Godfather 3. King Of New York 4. Coming To America 5. Taxi Driver If this was a top 10, I would also have included Big, When Harry Met Sally (no, seriously), Do the Right Thing, Serpico and Shaft. I haven't seen On the Waterfront or Manhattan but from what I understand, they belong in the Top 5.
You very honeslty cannot have a NY movie list and not include a Woody Allen movie. Any one really (annie hall gets my vote), but you need at least one. Also, I would probably put Do the Right Thing on there, much as I have a problem with Spike Lee. Very funny moive, though (high fidelity).
Ugh. The original, Abre los Ojos, blows it away. And Pi could probably use an honorable mention. Top Five Chicago Movies: 1. The Sting 2. The Untouchables 3. The Blues Brothers 4. Ferris Bueller's Day Off 5. Wayne's World Honorable mention: The Fugitive, Backdraft, The Color of Money, The Breakfast Club, and, of course, High Fidelity itself.
Say what you will, VS did an excellent job of capturing the essence of being in New York - especially the classic Hollywood image many of us have of the city. No Risky Business?
Forgot that one. And The Negotiator, as well. I also didn't try to claim Raiders of the Lost Ark, although in all three movies Indiana Jones is ostensibly a University of Chicago professor.
Top five Songs to listen to to get me in the mood for doing homework: 1) The happy ending- Phantom Planet 2) Closing time-Semisonic 3) Married with children- Oasis 4) Education- The Kinks 5) parting ways- Pearl Jam
Top 5 Woody Allen movies: 5. Annie Hall 4. What's Up, Tiger Lily? 3. Take the Money and Run 2. Bananas 1. Love and Death
If you haven't seen " The Cruise" find it and watch it as soon as possible. Its the ultimate New York movie. I wish it was twice as long as it is. Its a documentary about this totally nuts/genius tour bus driver. If you don't already love New York, you will after watching this.
It hasn't even left theaters yet, and I wasn't sure whether or not to count it considering that the bulk of it takes place outside Chicago proper.
Are you kidding? Everyone... was unwatchable, except to see which song from a Marx Bros. film they'd lift next. Sweet & Lowdown's a good film, but it's not in the league of any of his early comedies. It shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Sleeper, let alone Bananas.
Great call. Everytime I see a doubledecker tour bus in Manhattan, I look up to see if it's that guy leading the tour. That's as compelling a documentary as any I've ever enjoyed. Add Susan Seidelman's first film "Smithereens" with Richard Hell and Susan Berman to the list of great NYC movies...
I posted this one in the last reincarnation but I figured it was worth bringing back. Top 5 girl's name song titles 1. Kate Ben Folds Five 2. Allison Elvis Costello 3. Roxanne Police 4. Lucille Kenny Rogers 5. Veronica Elvis Costello
Top 5 girl's name "says" song titles 1. Stephanie Says, Velvet Underground 2. Candy Says, Velvet Underground 3. Jane Says, Jane's Addiction 4. Lisa Says, Velvet Underground 5. Caroline Says, Lou Reed
I think this is the best list I've seen yet. I've always wondered what was behind Lou Reed/The VU's fetish with song titles like this.
