If STY steps down, the KFA might view him as a coward.

Better to be viewed as a coward by the KFA, than to be seen as public enemy #1 by the public after the atrocious performance in 2018

About Hiddink they gonna talk about 5 minutes at max. You know Kim Ho Gon is still on top of this commitee.

That's the issue. The KFA probably doesn't care much because they know most of the public will just blame the coach.

I give it 1 minute max. Kim Ho Gon won't bring it up, someone else on the committee will and then KHG will get mad and shut down the Hiddink talks, and then they will come up with one of "their own" for the U-23 positions.

STY needs to save his career by not going to WC 2018.

His career will also be boned if he stepped down. The KFA would crucify him, and there'd also definitely be a section of the media and the public that accused him of being a coward, "abandoning the team", "not carrying out his responsibilities", "lacking love for his country" and etc., etc. His career would take a hit - he'd be blackballed by the KFA and K-League and have to look for a job elsewhere in Asia.

Granted, his career will be utterly dead if he fails utterly in the WC, as all indicators suggest he will. He's in a really bad place right now.

STY has already drunken the poisoned chalice. His only hope for salvation is that he takes this team to Russia 2018 and somehow, inexplicably, finds success. How he'll achieve this, who knows - but he's not gonna step down. He'll stick it out and hope for a miracle.

For him, the best result would be if the decision was taken out of his hands and he was forced out of the post. Like if the KFA fired him ... or if he fell into a coma for next twelve months. His career would remain intact.

Unfortunately, neither of those are likely to happen. So his best chance is to stay in the post and pray for divine intervention in Russia.

Ideally, the best option for Shin Tae-yong would be for both parties to reach a mutual agreement.

Maybe he could be the assistant coach under Hiddink like Verbeek did?

The majority have been suggesting this, but whether Shin Tae-yong becomes the assistant under Hiddink, Shin Tae-yong leads whilst Hiddink is the advisor (Like Scolari and Parreira @ 2014 FIFA World Cup), or both under co-management (Like Hallgrímsson and Lagerbäck with Iceland), these are all viable options that the KFA must take into consideration because they're only looking at it black and white.

Hiddink is old, senile and most definitely not the same person 15 years ago. We need someone who can transform the rigid way of thinking football in Korea. Someone like Nagelsmann would be perfect for KNT. Young, unorthodox, tactically-gifted; If he can transform a relegation-bound Hoffenhelm to top 5 finish last season, he can also transform KNT.

Why the hell would someone like that ever want to be within ten feet of the KNT cesspool right now?

I guess the red card and the break from BSK didn't improve your intelligence. What a waste.

"사심없이 도와주신다면 나 역시 사심없이 받아들일 마음이 있다."

신 감독은 러시아와 친선전을 찾는 히딩크 감독에게 러시아 선수들에 대한 조언도 듣겠다고 했다. 그는 "도와주시겠다면 러시아 선수들 개개인에 대한 특징을 조언해주시면 좋겠다. 그걸 듣고 경기에 활용하겠다"라고 말했다.

yup ZERO. either that or he just doesn't give a ....

if he really and i mean genuinely cared for KOR Football and the state of our NT, he would have done the right thing. and we all know what that right thing is, it would not mean dissolving his career as the NT gaffer, but the guy is clueless.
