Not sure where to post this. Hex draw conducted this morning. If I'm reading it correctly here is the initial glance. (Also double posted this in concacaf thread) Mexico is Team 5. Known. If US top group C, they will be Team 1: - will host Mexico on matchday 1, November 11th, 2016. - will be away to team 4 - Group B winner on matchday 2, November 15th, 2016. As it stands, Costa Rica, but maybe Panama. If US 2nd in group C, they will be Team 6: - will host team 4 - group B winner on matchday 1, November 11th, 2016. As it stands, Costa Rica, but maybe Panama. - will be away to Team 3 - Group A runner up on matchday 2, November 15th, 2016. Honduras/Canada or maybe El Salvador. Known: US (if they qualify of course) will host on Matchday 1 either Mexico or probably Costa Rica. Matchday 2 will be away.
And looks like others have done it better than I did... Articles American Outlaws National Headquarters CONCACAF held the draw for the Hexagonal round of World Cup Qualifying today. The U.S. is currently in second place with two matches to play at St. Vincent (Sept 2) and home vs. Trindad & Tobago (Sept 6 - Jacksonville) NOTE: Both scenarios are based on Costa Rica winning their group. If we place first in our current group: NOTE: If we finish first in our group, Mexico at home would be the first Matchday (in November), away would be in June Matchday 1 (November 7-15, 2016) USA (C1) vs. Mexico (A1) Honduras/Canada (A2) vs. Panama/Jamaica (B1) T&T/Guatemala (C2) vs. Costa Rica (B1) Matchday 2 (November 7-15, 2016) Costa Rica (B1) vs. USA (C1) Panama/Jamaica (B1) vs. Mexico (A1) Honduras/Canada (A2) vs. T&T/Guatemala (C2) Matchday 3 (March 20-28, 2017) USA (C1) vs. Honduras/Canada (A2) T&T/Guatemala (C2) vs. Panama/Jamaica (B1) Mexico (A1) vs. Costa Rica (B1) Matchday 4 (March 20-28, 2017) Panama/Jamaica (B1) vs. USA (C1) Honduras/Canada (A2) vs. Costa Rica (B1) T&T/Guatemala (C2) vs. Mexico (A1) Matchday 5 (June 5-13, 2017) USA (C1) vs. T&T/Guatemala (C2) Costa Rica (B1) vs. Panama/Jamaica (B1) Mexico (A1) vs. Honduras/Canada (A2) Matchday 6 (June 5-13, 2017) Mexico (A1) vs. USA (C1) Panama/Jamaica (B1) vs. Honduras/Canada (A2) Costa Rica (B1) vs. T&T/Guatemala (C2) Matchday 7 (August 28-September 5, 2017) USA (C1) vs. Costa Rica (B1) Mexico (A1) vs. Panama/Jamaica (B1) T&T/Guatemala (C2) vs. Honduras/Canada (A2) Matchday 8 (August 28-September 5, 2017) Honduras/Canada (A2) vs. USA (C1) Panama/Jamaica (B1) vs. T&T/Guatemala (C2) Costa Rica (B1) vs. Mexico (A1) Matchday 9 (October 2-14, 2017) USA (C1) vs. Panama/Jamaica (B1) Costa Rica (B1) vs. Honduras/Canada (A2) Mexico (A1) vs. T&T/Guatemala (C2) Matchday 10 (October 2-14, 2017) T&T/Guatemala (C2) vs. USA (C1) Panama/Jamaica (B1) vs. Costa Rica (B1) Honduras/Canada (A2) vs. Mexico (A1)
If we place second in the group. There is a real opportunity for us to win the group. We have a much easier away match on matchday 5 (USA @ VIN, GUA @ TRI) and have the group leaders at home on the final matchday. Guatemala need to take six points because four might not be enough (looking at GD), unless we completely fall flat.
I mentioned this in the other thread, but first game is at home and it's a federal holiday. All of us government paper pushers need to show up in force.
I'd far prefer the Group C winner schedule. No back-to-back road matches unlike the 2nd place schedule. 2nd place schedule also plays 4 of final 6 matches on the road, so the pressure would be on early to pick up points. Regarding the C1 schedule (this assumes TnT finish 2nd in group C, Honduras finish 2nd in group A, and Panama finish 2nd in group B): Begin with a home match in the cold in Columbus vs Mexico. Get @ Costa Rica out of the way early. The 4-0 defeat in the Copa America will still be fairly fresh in their minds. We've always had a horrible time in CR but this gives us as good of a chance as any to get a result. Home to Honduras and away to Panama in March provide a good opportunity for 4-6 points, even if the November matches didn't go well. End the first trip through the Hex with a home game against TnT... the easiest game of the group. Open up the back half with Mexico on the road. You have to play it at some point. Home with Costa Rica in August won't be a replay of the snow bowl. We usually play CR well at home and we'll have both MLS and Euro-based players in regular season form. Early September in Honduras could still be stifling. Never an easy trip but better than opening up there like the last Hex. Love the final two matches - Panama at home and TnT on the road. If qualification were in doubt and we had to play a home/road series to finish the Hex I'm not sure you could ask for anything better. Either of the opponents could be eliminated by this point and just be playing out the string. Contrast this with the 2nd place schedule where these potentially critical games are @ Mexico and vs TnT.
Guesses at home venues? Could just wait until after tomorrow but I'm bored. 1st: Mexico - Columbus Honduras - Seattle TT - SL or Denver CR - KC Panama - Chicago/Philly 2nd: CR - Denver Panama - Chicago/Philly Mexico - Columbus Honduras - Seattle Panama - LA TT - KC
How would you rate these away trips (friendly fans, atmosphere, safety, etc) I think I read a lot of positive posts about those that went to Honduras Canada Costa Rica Guatemala Honduras Jamaica Mexico Panama Thanks
Hotel in Mexico city booked for June 2017 Would love to make Columbus in November but too close to birth of first kid.
Would say Mexico Costa Rica Panama Honduras Trinidad Trinidad is the only one I'd say is pretty boring.
What are the chances that the June 13 game gets rescheduled due to Mexico needing to be in Russia four days later for the Confederations Cup? I recall that Mexico had a game moved for that reason in the last Hex.
Panama City is infinitely better than San Jose. But Costa Rica is a bit cooler I think overall than Panama. Both are nice
11/11 vs. Mexico - Columbus 3/24 vs. Honduras - Salt Lake City 6/9 vs. Trinidad & Tobago - Orlando 9/1 vs. Costa Rica - Seattle (because Alaska isn't really a viable option) 10/6 vs. Panama - Harrison, NJ I'd also like to try to have a game in Texas (maybe Houston's new park), but people get weird about thinking we're no longer able to have home-field advantages in Texas, Florida or California.
I think Denver is a good bet for Trinidad if the Azteca game is not changed. Kc is almost surely going to have a game
I vote for Panama in Harrison NJ. It'll be easy to get all my fellow Panas in Brooklyn to attend (plus the road warriors from Maryland and Boston)
I would like to see us try to branch out a bit and I'm not sold on KC as this fortress that people seem to think it is.
It's a great atmosphere, great stadium. I think it's kind of the trinity of Seattle, Columbus and Kansas City that US soccer will almost always go back to at least once each cycle. Although they have always shown the ability to surprise, ex St. Louis
