Give Wondo another $3 million contract so he won't have to worry about selling anymore houses! If Ibra is getting $8 & Pirlo got $6mil , I believe Chris should get at least 1/2 that amount! Or how about if Fisher gives him GAP stock options?
One of the best tweet of the night on Wondo... I spent damn near a decade of my life in the supporters' section and I would've sold a goddamn kidney to have the last man on the roster come into the stands and show about 1/10th the emotion Wondo is showing right now. #SJvPHI— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) September 26, 2019
My love for this club will never waver... It has bigger and brighter days ahead! I will always help this club. If I’m on the field or in the office I will always make sure this club is 1st priority #quakes #myclub— Chris Wondolowski (@ChrisWondo) October 7, 2019
This is a big decision for the #Quakes74. Their captain, Chris Wondolowski, is out of contract this off-season. https://t.co/m1ZYKrHh4q— Robert Jonas (@robertjonas) October 6, 2019 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
There is no decision here. He scored 15 goals and is an national/local legend. If the FO wants to go big and get three DPs (and I hope they do), then we should just sign Wondo as a highly paid player/coach like we did with Ramiro, and get him ready for his future. He's still got fuel in the tank.
A similar situation to Don Mattingly (including his minor league career) and the New York Yankees, or perhaps to John Doyle's playing career and the San Jose Earthquakes? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Interesting about Doyle. I actually recall him scoring two goals in season opener in his last season I believe and then as soon as he retired , they won the MLS Cup.
Exactly. The Don Mattingly / New York Yankees mention referred to how the Yankees won the 1978 MLB World Series, then Mattingly joined them in their minor league system in 1979 before retiring with the MLB squad in 1995, after which the Yankees won their next World Series in 1996. The dude scored 15 goals and had 13 freaking assists. He nearly dragged us into the playoffs by himself after Vako went stone cold. As someone stated earlier, I believe he comes back if Almeyda returns...much slimmer chance if he doesn't. Ideally we would bring in a younger bonafide goal scoring forward (that was supposed to be Vako) and have Wondo slowly transition into a Cerritos type role...a savvy second half sub and spot starter...he probably stills bags 10 if we can surround him with a couple quality attackers...and Espinoza returns...less playing time and less compensation...gets him off the DP list. Bottomline, you can't take his production off the field until you bring in guys that can actually put the ball in the net...Hopefully Almeyda returns.

15 goals and 2 freaking assists. But I agree, bring him back and get a young DP whose known for consistently scoring lots of goals. Although a player like that is going to be too expensive. I fear it will be near impossible to replace Wondo’s production for the money we’re willing to spend. Matt Doyle suggested we will need to spend around 4 million to get such a player. We won’t spend two million. Hopefully Cade Cowell comes good.
yep, my bad. I don't know where the 13 came from...that's what happens when you're on the third Pliny...haha.
This isn't really germane to this thread, but Mrs. bsman and I are on our annual pilgrimage to Madison, WI right now, and I saw this. Had to restrain myself from taking a sharpie and changing the "A" to an "O":

Tied for 5th in the league in goals scored with 15, and none of them were PKs. Anybody see that coming a month into the season? With all the letdowns fans of this team have had to endure, this year's edition of Chris Wondolowski was not one of them. Go Wondo! I do hope he returns next season, even as a bit player he will help the team.
