Again, he won't score any if he is not playing or is sitting on the bench. His odds of scoring from a pk are better in mop up duty than it would be from the field of play. Especially at 36 years of age...

Here is the ultimate strategy to get Wondo the record before the season is done:

    1) Play wondo at Forward
    2) Play Magnus at Forward and leave him in the opposing penalty box. The allows him to play to his greatest strength, diving in the box. This also mitigates his biggest weakness, soccer in general.
    3) Play better than normal (almost assured with Magnus locked in the opposing penalty area).
    4) Kick ball to Magnus... like every single play where he's not offside. Either Magnus gets a call or two in there or they keep their distance allowing him to either shoot or pass to Wondo who will find the open space.
    5) Profit

Play Wondo at forward with Hoesen and keep Magnus and Godoy on the bench.

This part really made me laugh. For what it's worth, and in all seriousness, I do wonder what would happen if they actually put Eriksson up front with Wondolowski. The only truly positive thing I have to say about the guy is that he probably has the hardest shot of the forward players, yet he's stuck trying to be a set up guy out on the wing where he has been very underwhelming.

Why not throw him up top, let him mix it up Amerikwa style with defenders, and see what happens? Worst case scenario he gets a red card, which removes him from a game that the Quakes were almost guaranteed to lose anyway. I see no downside here, and if Wondolowski can piggyback off that for a couple penalties so we can all move past this all-time record (both in Quakes poor quality and Wondolowski's goal total), then go for it.

It hardly seems worth keeping to any kind of rule book when you only have a couple games to play, a coach who is very likely to leave at the end of the season, and players who already don't know what they're doing out there.

I don't care to Magnus Eriksson flopping in the box or anywhere else on the field.

I can live through it if it means 2 more Wondo goals.

I'm okay with Wondo being around next season and hitting 150, and then 160 and maybe 200 after a few more years. The news of Wondo's demise was always greatly exaggerated. He would likely have had 20 goals this season with a decent team and regular starts (and non-corrupt officials).

MLS has never produced a greater player than Wondo, and I cannot conceive it ever will.

What other star player would willingly remain on a cellar dweller in solidarity with its suffering fans? Consider Odell Beckham, Jr. He doesn't want to be in the Big Apple because he doesn't get enough attention there.

We're on this board worrying about who would want to play for the Quakes. Wondo has not only willingly played for the Quakes at under value for years, when he finally saw the field last weekend with the game and the season already out of reach you could see that he had more fighting spirit than any teammate.

    Wondo is the GOAT.

If Wondo scores against Cruz Azul, they should include the goal in his totals.

I think that’s what Romario did to say he scored 1000. He counted all his beach soccer games! Hahahahaha!

speaking of great value as a DP, glad he’s sticking around, hopefully these guys will put together a better team around him for what could be his last season.

Good. Given the potential language issues, and the locker-room dynamics that always attend a coaching change I think that Chris' leadership on and off the field will be extremely valuable next year. Plus, I want him to not simply bypass LD's record, but to destroy it. If we end up hiring a world-class DP striker next season, I believe that will divert a lot of the attention competing defenders currently focus on Wondo and allow him to do what he does best: disappear and suddenly reappear in front of the goal with the ball. If this happens, I predict he scores an amazing tenth year of double-digit goals.
