Not much. The point is that I expect a lot more of Karius. And we are getting more, yes. But not a lot more.
Ter Stegen made mistakes at the German NT and later in the first season at Barca all the time. Still, if Neuer doesnt get fit, he'll be the no.1. For those who didnt know Karius before it perhaps seemed like Klopp was transferring Neuer 2.0 in when he actually was maybe two classes below. I think he still is better than Mignolet. He might not be the mega upgrade but still better. Given the money thats been paid for him it was a bargain.. Expectations just were too high for the lad
our spine: - we have a WC attack led by Bobby - Keita strengthens an already strong central midfield - VVD will make the defence better. we now need a really good goalie - someone that is deGea / Cheh / Courtois level is needed.
I'd still be a bit greedy and look for another strong MFer, holding or box-to-box type, another strong CB in addition to the new #1 keeper.
He's such damaged goods, so much that even his current manager is throwing him under the bus........ https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...wFWPKQcZIGJNP7iHEsURAcBXPewR72MPiNZWgyhnZHISs
Turns out they haven't paid him for 4 months. No wonder he's acting like there is something wrong!!! (See my post on loans thread)
You gotta feel for the guy. To come so close to glory and folklore at one of the biggest clubs in the world; to getting blamed for the loss; to whatever this is. He's gotta feel like he's in the Twilight Zone. Not that I want him back or anything.
The dude got almost 3 consecutive seasons playing time at Barca. If you had given Karius that, hed be up there with him
After Lehmann retired, Neuer was second/third choice behind Adler on the NT. Before Adler broke his shoulder in March 2010 Neuer was the "will never be as good" guy
maybe - but I wasn't watching them and making a comment about the loris Karius I've seen and the Ter Stegen I've seem (particularly his performances in the 2016-17 season, some of which were magnificent....
Bouncing the ball directly off a strikers foot when they are 3 yards away to open the scoring in a CL final is worse.
Much worse than bouncing the ball right in front of a striker to level the score in a CL final. min 5:19 Barca didnt throw him under the bus. Thats the only difference
Are you joking? How are those in any way comparable? An admittedly very bad/weak parry right to an attacker, which I do agree is very poor goalkeeping vs rolling the ball right at at striker so all they have to do is stick a foot out?? One of which opens the scoring when your best attacker has gone down and the only thing that will keep you in the match is composure and a lot of focus? I mean, you can stick up for your countryman or whatever, but please at least debate with intellectual honesty, because those things aren't even CLOSE to the same thing. To your overall point, all I can say is good for Ter Stegen! It's good for him and Barca and probably Germany that he worked his issues out. De Gea had very similar issues when bought by Man United, and worked through them with United's help and now he's one of the best in the world. So good for them! But regardless of those guys... Karius deserved exactly what he got. He's not due more just because. He's a 4M pound signing. Welcome to being a professional.
I disagree. "Controlling" a medium paced back pass into your own net (twice) is just as bad as anything Karius did. But I think the real point is not to debate which is worse than the other, just to point out that both have made mistakes. No keeper is immune, especially while they are still learning.
It's a worse mistake in a vacuum, perhaps... if he did that in the CL final I'd probably say we need a new keeper instead of him, too. But either way, this ignores mountain of context -- Karius was moved for a whole lot of reasons, and now LFC will be back in the semis of CL (probably) and might win the prem due to having the best defense in the league. So... I'm not sure what we're even really talking about here. Karius is gone, and that was not just a smart but a necessary move. If he gets his head together, maybe he could be an okay backup in the future? I don't know. I don't really care.
Well De Gea is a very good, expensive goalkeeper. So that would be counter productive, and furthermore is an incredibly poor comparison to a cheap, mediocre-at-best keeper like Karius, isn’t it?
