Figured that, if no one was going to change the title of the other thread, Herc deserved one that at least associated him with the correct club. The other should be closed.
You got it. The old thread is here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=24139763&highlight=Herculez#post24139763
......which explains the lack of a dash between the S and the T. If someone wants to change the name of the thread, it's fine with me. I was just tired of the Pachuca thread for a player who was no longer playing there.
I had no seen the blank space btw estudiantes and tecos. I was wondering the same thing about the other title name.
Herc got the game winning goal for Tecos tonight. He walked Pachuca's back line and put one past Calero. It was kind of an interesting goal actually. I need to see the highlights, but it looked like Herc was offside when the ball was played and as another Pachuca player hustled back he played him onside.
Herc went 19 minutes yesterday as Tecos fell 2-0 to Jaguares. It was his third straight substitute appearance.
True, but on this play it actually seems he was onside. It was a tight play because the center-back stepped up putting him momentarily in an offside position, but the left back dropped before the ball was played putting Herc in an onside position.
Herc came on in the 69th minute and scored in stoppage time as Tecos beat Club Tijuana on the road today 2-0.
Gomez was not in the 18 today as Tecos visited Monarcas and came away 0-2 victors. He tweeted that he has a quad injury.
Congrats on the call-up. Hope he can impress quickly as I feel there's a big role for him to play in qualifying.
My mistake. Someone leaked an early release of the roster and it apparently had Gomez name on it. I forgot to check it later.
Despite being out of favor with Juergen Klinsmann, Gomez played the last 27 minutes off the bench and scored a last gasp consolation for Tecos. 3-2 loss. He's tied for 7th place in the Apertura with 5 goals.
Believe that is the best scoring rate in the league as well, again despite being mostly a sub this season.
See, I don't think it's "despite" mostly being a sub. In fact, typically, it's easier to have a high scoring rate if a player is always coming into games as a sub, coming in fresh against tired defenders. Finally, there are more goals scored in the last 15 minutes than any other 15 minute block, and that's a reason to somewhat discount his scoring "rate." I love Herc, I wish he had gotten more time in SAfrica. I'm just trying to put the stats into proper perspective.
http://www.socceroverthere.com/?p=7008 Interesting stats compiled about Gomez scoring goals at a very very high rate of chicken dances per cornball machine... He is 6th in goal scoring in Mexico since 1/1/10, and his goals per minute ratio is so good it's bizarre.
I don't buy that it's easier to develop a high scoring rate just because you're a "super sub". Far more often subs in Herc's favored position are brought on because goals are needed, meaning opposition is often protecting their lead or their point. Personally, that scoring that takes place in the final 15 minutes is boosted by counters against teams pushing for goals. I checked Herc's stats this season. 5 goals. 1 as a starter. 2 as a sub when his team was leading. 2 as a sub when his team was losing. So, he's been successful in several situations. There's situational merit to your point, but I don't buy into the idea that Gomez has a high scoring rate because he's put into situations that are any easier than those of other goal scorers.
Herculez Gomez gets the usual 2nd half sub treatment and has again provided the usual 2nd half goal treatment. Unfortunately that has only pulled Tecos within 3 goals, as Chivas lead 5-2. His 6th goal of the campaign.
