He's talking about the energy . Correct me if I'm wrong , but there's power outages almost everyday in any major city in Colombia ..sometimes it's random . As much as cool of the idea of having a World Cup in Colombia , they should fix mayor problems before the government splash cash ( some stolen from the people ) on stadiums , and things to make the gringos feel comfortable. If it gets better over there in 5 years then maybe , but it looks like they need a total makeover before the World Cup .

You say Brazil ..man those guys protested that event . They're kicking out people out to the street To build ugly building for the Gringos.

Guys this world cup isn't for another decade; we can do so much. After all, look what happened to Colombia when the cartels ended?

This is a milestone that our people need and we continue to head to a positive future. People from my command were actually surprised and spoke positive about our country without me needing to actually explain things to them.

They can do this within a decade if they win the bid this year.

A World Cup would do wonders for Colombia. All the issues you bring up pep would have to be Fixed!!!!

If the FIFA executives come and see the stadiums being built and all of a sudden the light goes out!!! They will flip a shit and threaten to take the cup from us.

I don't know about the other cities but my parents are in Barranquilla now and they told me that water prices there are insane. Infrastructure would need a massive over haul but like Fro said its in 10 years.

My big issues with having a World Cup is we don't have 10 cities and even if they let us have it in 8. What the hell are these cities going to do once the World Cup leaves. Stadiums of over 50k in Bogota, Cali(counting it 2x), Barranquilla(make it massive 80k), Medillen....... K that is 5 stadiums.... Of over 50k. Unless we build a 2nd one in Bogota to bring it to 6.

50k stadium in Tolima,Manizales? What would happen after the cup? Another place that has the hotels and is super nice is Cartagena.... But with no club a 50k stadium??? Unless some how they get a top club to go move there I see it unlikely.

8th city? Cucuta don't they have a huge stadium? But again hotels....... When the hell are you going to have that many people wanting to go to Tolima or Cucuta again?

I see us being able to fix our infustucture and building the stadiums I just don't see us having the cities to host. I'd love for it to be in Colombia and all but don't want the country to have ghost towns and stadiums once the cup ends. Our best bet is hosting with another country but Venzuela/Peru/Ecuador...... Are close but don't seem like great options. Uruguay,Argentina and Chile are much to far away to host with

For those who think we can't host tho we hosted the U20s and it was very successful and had a massive turn out for a youth cup.

Our best bet would be co-hosting a world cup... Like Ecuador Peru and Colombia. Venezuela is in bad shape, so IDK

That way small cities dont end up with huge Stadiuma

    That's what I am
Saying but Colombia with Arg/chile or Uruguay hosting is still a far way but not any farther then Boston as one host and San Diego another host if it's in the US. I went took the flight for work and it was 9 hours. Same as Barranquilla to Bueno Aries when I went two summers ago

It would be kind of weird having Uruguay-Argentina and then Colombia all the way up there...

I mean us and one of those 3 countries. Issue is Colombia/Chile aren't clear WC caliber teams. We both just qualified for this one. Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina always qualify. So be easier with Uruguay/Arg then Chile but think Fifa wants Uruguay/Argentina . All host qualify directly so they won't let let 3 of us Qualify directly

Is just a matter of infraestructure,

I think you guys can be on to something.
With the way the new FIFA President Infantino is talking he wants to see regions Host as compared to Countries.

Sorta like the 2020 Euro which will be held in various cities across Europe.
So in essence Colombia could just have Barranquilla, Bogota, Medellin and maybe Cali as host cities. Then Peru and Ecuador can have whatever cities they choose.

However, Colombia really wanted to host by themselves in 2014. And I think they are trying their best to figure things out by themselves again for 2026. (But in the future this regional World Cup thing can be a reality.)

They always both qualify tho. Korea got much farther then we have in a World Cup.

Japan always qualifies and is the best team
In their region. At best we can hope to be the 3rd best/most popular team in the region unless we win the next 2 WCs and have as many as Argentina and Uruguay.

Before the world cup that they hosted they werent WC caliber teams and they still arent, they qualify regurarly because they dont have to fight a spot with 3 world cup winners...

Still they will always qualify like Mexico and US. The best 32 teams don't qualify if they did 6-7 South American teams, Mexico, 1-2 African teams then the rest are in europe

Before 2002 Japan only qualified to the world cup once in 1998...
not WC caliber teams as you make them ought to be...

Like I said this is a matter of infraestructure and the posibility of expanding football in diferent regions

Is south Africa Wc Caliber team also??

I'd really like a WC in Colombia and neighbor countries but I don't think Ecuador and Peru would , don't forget the guerrilla problem. Even if it's not as some years ago and we don't have anymore the big cartels (at least not known), the security is a big issue. That and some "supporters" like these ones:

    www.futbolred.com/otras-ligas-de-futbol/hinchas-de-nacional-involucrados-en-atracos-y-balacera-en-peru+16561671

I don't think Peruvians will receive Colombians with arms wide open after that (thank you LDS! And thank you all stupid barristas from all teams!)

Regarding the energy supply, if we have a chance to host the WC politicians will do the best they to improve the infrastructure of the country, not because they are good public employees but because it's an opportunity to steal more money than they have stolen before.

Like it was said before here so many times, there is not a violence issue.
We successfully organized a youth world cup tournament; back in 2001 when the country wasnt as safe as today Colombia organized a Copa America without any problems.
That issue with the barras bravas is no more different than any country in south america, when you do a world cup the tickets are higher therefore you see a different kind of fans, we saw that in Brazil.

I just keep going back to the same issue and is infraestructure; which Colombia really lacks.
Our only bet would be sharing the cost of hosting this huge tournament with other 2 countries or so.

But that is the reason to
Host to fix the infustucture !!!!!!! Also to change the image of Colombia. People might be afraid still to go there but a WC where we get over 100k foreigners to come would change shit.

Santa Marta and Cartagena are 10000x better then Cancun. They are way cheaper as well and at this point safer but yet people don't go. You have both Batranquilla and Cartagena host the WC then promote those two locations and boom!!!

Also a bunch of people in my office have been to Colombia and love it. Way before I started working there they say how beitiful Manizales is.

Infustucture can be fixed and changed in 10 years time. But I agree only way we can host is with another country sharing the cost. We would also need A big CPA firm and consulting firm to make sure no one is stealing the money that should be going into building what we need. Also not have the embarrassing no show of Shakira and Juanes who sing at the actual WC but our federation didn't bring to the U20 we hosted

The problem with security is more as how is seen from the neighbor countries, the perception (and/or the fact) from those countries of importing guerrillas will be always there, I'm not saying guerrillas will start kidnapping and killing in those countries but they can establish some "cellules" from there, not in the same proportion and not always scalable but it's what have been happening here in Europe with Schengen. So a peace agreement would be a solution, and the most important is that would be not only for something as trivial as football.

And no, I don't think Colombia is as dangerous as how is seen, I live in Switzerland and I have been robbed twice here while living in Colombia (Barranquilla and Cali) that NEVER happened. The first time I had cocaine in my hands was a standard imported from US to Cali to do some tests at the lab and the first time I saw cocaine and heroine "from the street" was here in Switzerland, in a classroom when the teacher showed to us.

I agree with that, I thought I have mentioned but I didn't. It is true is not the kind of public in national team matches.

    That's the key.

Actually from a neighbor and international perspective Colombia is now safer than ever, if santos did something right, was to change Colombia perception in the international eyes, thats why he was able to sign the controversial TLC, even though personally i disagree for economic reasons. Is a proof that Colombia is looked at in good eyes from an international prespective. We are talking about a country that was marked as a dangerous destination years before
