Out of nowhere we're going to be hosting a young lady 28 or 29 years old tonight and tomorrow. She was going to be staying with her sister's family but, well, it's complicated and doesn't matter. My oldest son and I are on our way to some stores to get her some stuff to open tomorrow but, honestly, we have no clue. Anyone have any ideas?
Okay so my wife said some general ideas are: -Nice candles -Saphora apparently has bins of little bottles of lotion and stuff you can use to make a gift basket -Sheet masks -Funny/cozy socks -A very soft slightly baggy sweater -Barnes and Noble Gift Card -A linen scarf -A nice knit winter hat and gloves If she has a hobby or interest and you can let us know she said she would give you more specific ideas but those are good general things.
Gift cards. Always gift cards. You can always also buy a couple $2 scratch-off tickets for everyone involved and have a little group excitement for three minutes.
Was just reading the comments on here to my wife because it's nice to see everyone pull together and when I got to this one she said that if she likes jewelery anything from Red Giraffe would be good. They have locations in Easton and Short North. Apparently it's really trendy and not very expensive (like 20-50 for most things). Also I feel like this was a strong hint to me moving forward so I may get to meet Bill haha.
Take his (his wife’s) advice. I know nothing of jewelry. I remember one time a boyfriend bought me a necklace from Tiffany. He was disappointed I had no idea the signifance. Spoiler: I did not end up with him.
You mention "Tiffany" to Mrs KG, she'd think you were talking about her cousin's kid.... I will admit, Cartier in Paris got her attention--but just to look.
This reminds me of some advice my dad gave me once. He said never to buy a gift for a girlfriend/wife no matter how much you spend...you should always buy a gift for YOUR girlfriend/wife. Better to spend less but put the thought/effort in to show you care and that it is truely for her than to spend recklessly without care.
Where are you at? Where is she from? You might want to get her something with a local flavor. Spice rubs, t shirt, candle etc.
These all sound like good suggestions. Props to Bill for taking someone in for Christmas on such short notice AND for asking for gift ideas/getting gifts for her.
An IOU for Columbus Crew merchandise for once the sale is announced? Btw, this thread is amazing. 1). Thanks to Bill and family for not only taking someone in unexpectedly, but to rush out to find ways to include her. 2). For everyone rallying around this with good suggestions
I have it on good authority that if all else fails, a super-soft and comfy blanket is always appreciated.
It's the deep off-season and I would love an update to this thread. What did the house guest receive and how did she receive it? Incidentally, I've been saved on more than one occasion by having a blank greeting card with a $25 Amazon gift card in it at my desk at work, and one in my house.
