Exactly, I think he was putting a lot of pressure on himself, which can be a good thing at times, but for an instinctual player like him, it can become a detriment as well. He seems to have good habits, in terms of work, training and a willingness to improve. And for Jose to come out and say that he trusts him completely, is as good an endorsement there is, considering how he usually feels about young players. He's getting his confidence back and we should see go from strength to strength the rest of the way. But without a doubt, this guy has to be a big part of the team going forward, because he is the real deal.
Too bad he doesnt have a better system and better forward players to mentor his progress. i keep thinking back to Thierry Henry and how he started out on the wing. i think MR should follow the same pattern. if we dont bring in a striker next season he will be thrusted too early into the 9 slot. that will be a mistake.
Had pretty much forgotten about that when I typed it, but yes, he's 3 for his last 3 games. Hopefully a sign that he's on his way back. If the other forwards can follow suit, the blow of Zlatan's loss could be seriously softened. We saw the potential our frontline has vs Chelsea. Which is exactly I have and will continue advocating for that type of CF in the summer, with Aubameyang right at the head of the list (Mbappe looking better and better as well). Speed, adaptability and versatility: that's what we need.
In some cases you need mentors, but in Rashford I think a coach can be enough like Wenger was for Henry. Henry probably learned from Ian Wright, but Rash has enough brains and humble enough to keep working and a good mentality. The United bred boys are like this similarly Lingard. Rash and Martial playing in the same lineup can flourish because their speed and technical ability combined provides space for opportunities. I'd like to see them both start on Sunday.
sorry, should have expanded on the "better system" part of my comment, which would include a more accomdating coach. United is a pressure cooker environment which will chew you up and spit you out if you are a kid. i dont think United is the ideal development ground for him unless they make special accomodations for him.
Rashford has the talent to be counted upon and be a big part of the team, be it now or even going into next season. There will be no real choice until the end of the season and based on what we saw just recently vs Chelsea, I want to see more of it, with Rash paired up front with the likes of Martial and/or Lingard. That being said, it doesn't change anything about our strategy going into the summer and Jose surely knows this. We lack quality numbers upfront and whether Zlatan even stays or goes, there is a big need for a big time CF/9. Rashford still has some growing up and developing to do and pinning out hopes in attack all on him, would be foolish and it will simply never happen...
He's not wrong. Rashford is young, yes but he needs to think long term in my opinion before committing to play for the U21 this summer. England, more than likely, will be in the WC in Russia and he's looking at a long season next term. I have no issues with players who put great importance in representing their country. But playing for the U21 team when he's already a senior international doesn't make much sense.
Fantastic interview: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...better-manchester-united-player-years-thanks/ Lots of praise for Ibra.
I don't understand why it wouldn't make sense. Marcus can't possibly be fatigued from his minutes this season and the added experience can only be helpful to keep him in gear for next season. We're bringing new forwards this summer. I don't know who but we are bringing in forwards. Marcus may or may not be an automatic starter but wouldn't it be better for all parties that he gain the minutes that he lost, so to speak, earlier in the season when he was seen only on the bench for weeks at a time?
Bodes well for his future that a) he wanted to take a free kick in such an important game b) was allowed to by several senior players that were more than capable c) executed it to perfection Big players step up for the big occasions. Sounds like he's been doing the ground work in practice too.
Didn't really have recognized set piece specialists on the pitch. Pogba isn't a deadball striker. If Zlatan or Mata were on the pitch sure.
Scholes said last year that his free kicks dip like Ronaldo's. whether it's true or not he does practice them so it makes sense he'd take them even if not classed as an expert (yet)
i'd rather he keep his pace. muscle is largely irrelevant if we utilise his speed. he doesn't need muscle for his game atm
Ronaldo is the perfect example of someone who added some serious muscle to his frame and it didn't affect his speed in the least. And it surely helped with his durability and cope with the physical nature of the game in England and defenders who constantly tried roughing him up. Rashford could use a little more muscle to him. Certainly not looking fr him to get big, "swole" or anything of that nature. But as time goes along, I woudn't mind seeing him fill just a little bit more. There are easy ways to accomplish that goal, without sacrificing his speed in the process.
There is a big misconception of adding muscle will slow you down. One of our posters I believe @Futbol_Head is one of them who are familiar with the physique in muscle mass in football. As long as muscle is added proportionately focused on strength and not mass then it will only do him good to hold defenders off and become a physical presence in the box ala Lewandoski.
@Ruud v.Nistelrooy 10 saying added muscle = slower is just flat out wrong. I personally gained roughly 10 lbs of muscle after high school and immediately noticed how much faster and more explosive I was. What matters is the type of muscle he's putting on. Nobody is saying go into the gym and do curls. But explosive compound lifts like squats, deadlifts, bench, all help your body to learn to work as a unit.
sure except... 1) i never made that claim. it could happen never said it always does or made any such correlation 2) he does fine as is shielding the ball when he needs to 3) the talk was about being like Lewandowski i.e. - physical presence in the box 4) never Rashford's game to begin with. don't know why folks would want to change that now
