I may be wrong, but I believe there wasn't a single advertisement of the FIRE during the World Cup games. How is that possible? Yeah I know the answer to that (Andi).

Assuming it was the first DC-SJ game in 2004, that would have been April 3, 2004, MLS Season opening day.
(For some odd reason, DC and SJ played three times in 2004 (in April, May and August)

San Jose was reigning MLS Cup Champs (beating the Fire, of course. F*ck you forever, San Jose!), so interest was high.

Also, DC United had just signed 14 year wunderkind FREDDY ADU!
He made his debut in that game, coming on as a substitute.
(remember when he was a big deal, and not just a 12 year butt of jokes?
Hard to believe that he is just turned 29).

The World wanted to see the "next Pele"

Piotr Nowak was appointed as DC United coach, and it was his first game, as well (F*ck you forever, DC United).

It could also have due to the announcement that Frank Yallop had left San Jose, replaced by Dominic Kinnear, but that probably was not part of the equation.

    Thank you, wikipedia.

I remember taking my 2-year old son to see him play against the Fire at NSF. I knew he would never remember it, but I wanted him to be able to say that he was there for the first Freddy Adu appearance in Chicago. Yeah, I was duped. :)

We should all thank Freddy Adu for his sacrifice at the altar of future USMNT stars. God, can you imagine what it would have been like for Pulisic if everybody didn't have that "temper optimism, remember Freddy Adu" inner monologue in the back of their head at all times?

A cherished memory for him, for sure.
Even at 2 years old, I am sure that he has that event etched into psyche for ever!
It was a "date which will live in infamy."

    Where were you when?:

-The 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago Riots? I was two years old, but I vaguely remember it.
-Moon landing? (Again, I was just a kid, but the whole family was huddled around the tv in the family room).
-Watergate? (Super hot summer. We only had one room with air conditioning, and one tv. I wanted to watch "cartoons" or something, but my mom kept saying, "Shhhh! This is history!" I guess she was right)
-9-11? (At the Walgreens, buying an energy drink, prior to starting my day working for the Chicago Bar Association. Someone burst in and said "Someone blew up the World Trade Center!" and ran out again. We were all sent home from work, since our office was about 100 feet from the Dirksen Federal Building [in case that was a target]. The soon-to-be-ex and I had lunch at Duke of Perth and I bought my first cell phone that day...just in case).

-June 4, 2004-FREDDY ADU'S FIRST GAME IN CHICAGO? I imagine I was there, but I really have no recollection of it.
I am getting old, so maybe my "short term" (14 year) memory is not what it was.

The Fire won 3-0. Damani Ralph had a had trick.
Freddie Adu started but was subbed out.
    Thanks, Youtube.

It's crazy, but I think so. Nobody has called him the next Pele yet. Next Landon Donovan, yes, but at least not Pele.

Don't scale it down. People are constantly comparing him to Messi and Ronaldo. Even people saying he's on par (or better than!) Mbappe are ridiculous.

Sure, but is he as good as Freddy Adu, the next Pele?

Andi must be jealous, this is what he's been trying to do for the last 8 to 9 years. Getting somebody for cheap and making millions.

  19. Donovan Bailey is only a year older and better, but the Jamaican hype machine is no match for Yankee hubris.

    Donovan Bailey?
    The runner?
    He is 50+.

If there is another, the "hype machine" has not reached me yet.

  21. Oops, that's Leon Bailey.

Yes, I had never hear of him until recently.
However, did he score TWO goals in a meaningless friendly this past week?

    What hype about Christian Pulisic?!?
Apparently, Pulisic is valued at £60,000,000. Worth every penny, I am sure.

Real Madrid have enquired about signing 19-year-old Borussia Dortmundand USA midfielder Christian Pulisic, who is valued at £60m. (Mail)

It's Leon, but he is really good.

It's kind of scary how good Bailey (Jamiaca), Lozano (Mexico), Davies (Canada), and Pulisic (USA) are at a young age.

I feel bad for Jamaica. If they could get their dual national players, they might be the best team in the region.
