crappy refereeing in a crappy league

    i am not surprised

well it's expected..how can they talk about a "big rivalry" when the MFL teams are the only ones making it past the group stage....if MLS teams dont make it then the whole point of the superliga is lost...

so they rather give them a hand to keep the tournament "interesting"....for MLS fans anyway...

Aren't both, the Interliga and Superliga contracts up for renewal after this year?

I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of them gets the axe...

The only good thing about this tournament are the Mexican fans!

    What an atmosphere!

No matter how hard gringo tries he/she will never match the authentic futbol emotions known so well all over Latin America.

    The fireworks were awesome!

Scew it; let me just say what needs to be said: the gringos are riding OUR coattails to make their league seem better, but this game alone proves that when futbol is this entertaining and I can see that Cal State Fulla-crap is packed, then I can also see that there is a need for some REAL futbol in this cuntry....

And we Mexicans are going to give it to them long and hard, and we Latinos are going to to give it to them until they scream like the sock-her weenies that they are!

What a load-a-crap the MLS is...a retirement league better suited for asylum seekers (Cuba), African crib-robbers (Adu, Altidore etc.), socker retirees (Beckham, Blanco, Donovan[took an early retirement], JP Angel, etc. ) and anybody else who can no longer play in a league that COUNTS!

I ask the gringos: What is your duty now?

Do you remember 187 in California?

How about getting the hell out of the way and letting a REAL RACE A REAL CULTURE do what you could not....build a real futbol league and a REAL Country.

    Keep booing their anthem...

    Ya estuvo'.

    Estufas!

    You are despised!

What happened with Chivas? i read how the rules were changed twice during the game...what a joke this tournament is, and they expect people to take it seriously? this joke of a cup needs to disappear because the only ones enjoying it are the MLS fans

    Beckham mania fizzles

He's a celebrity, playing well, lifting TV ratings. So why has the soccer star lost the buzz?

    Saturday, Jul 19, 2008 8:08 am EDT
Beckham has become medium-sized fish in very large pond

David Beckham has recovered from the injuries that wrecked his first M.L.S. season, and his pinpoint passing is a prime reason the Los Galaxy, which visits the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night, leads the league in goals this year. He has helped spur increases in TV ratings, attendance and jersey sales. But beyond the soccer world, any buzz — like the kind that might have been anticipated a year ago when his staged introduction was covered by several hundred members of the news media and carried live in parts of Europe — has mostly fizzled.

When the Galaxy traveled to Washington last month, attendance was off by more than 10,000 from last year's game, even though that one was played on a weeknight, in the rain, and it was unclear if Beckham, who was injured, would play. Beckham did play and afterward attended three well-advertised invitation-only parties at D.C. nightclubs. When the Galaxy returned last month, there were none. Crowds at the Galaxy's other road games have been almost identical to last season even though Beckham did not play in Dallas, Toronto, Colorado and Salt Lake City a year ago because of injuries.

I don't know what was going on, with what the Atlante president said, and with what Nestor said, but the rules were clearly outlined in the pregame packet I linked to in the Chivas thread.

Stupid rules, but the rules nevertheless. I'm more upset about the Michel injury.
