The chances of us making the playoffs are slim. I would take a win over FCC as opposed to a win over Alphabet Soup.
I understand but I won't quit until there is no hope. There are probabilities and possibilities. It is still possible.
A perfect shit storm of work and home drama has made it such that I had to juggle my work schedule and hangels will not be in the outfield tonight. RIP hangontour. (Thanks for the 10 hour service window, tomorrow McMillan. Really makes work and life planning great). It's a shame, since it's gonna storm like crazy tonight from the looks of it, and the only thing better than Nordecke Legend John Clem is Wet Nordecke Legend John Clem, so I'll definitely miss that. Here's to three points anyway and hopes that the remainder of the East Coast Elite that make the trip to Yankee Stadium leave happy.
As much as I hate to take off the heart and soul of the attack, I think Pedro needs a break. I doubt it happens but this seems like a great match to break out the 4-4-2. I'd even look at running Hamilton and Williams as the 2, mainly to give Zardes a mid-week break. I think Accam, Argudo, Trapp, and Mokhtar as the midfield with Afful, Crognale, Mensah, Maloney in the back would probably be what I rolled out if I was in FIFA. But it's a short week without much time to hammer in a tactics change so I'll stick with the 4-2-3-1. Zardes (Give him 60 minutes and bring in the reserves) Accam-Santos-Mokhtar (Sosa/Argudo are options for Santos but we'll see) Trapp-Artur (wouldn't be surprised to see Guzman slide in to give a rest to either one) Afful-Crognale-Mensah-Maloney (not a whole lot of options here) Room Another switch I'd consider is putting Williams at LB, with Maloney at RB and giving Afful a night off.
I like the idea of a 4-4-2. I don't think we see it, though. I would really, really, really like to see our kids (and new signings) out there. Room Afful - Mensah - Crognale - Maloney Argudo - Artur Diaz - Sosa - Mokhtar Hamilton Bench: Kempin, Williams, Trapp, Guzmán, Santos, Accam, R. Williams We'll get ********ing smoked and it'll be glorious. But we'll probably see the same ol', same ol' shit: Room Afful - Mensah - Williams - Maloney Trapp - Artur Diaz - Santos - Mokhtar Gya$$$$$$$$$i Bench: Kempin, Crognale, Guzmán, Argudo, Sosa, Accam, R. Williams
I would say lose by one tonight, given the overall context. However, I believe in the "Sosa Factor." (And yes, I need something in which to believe. Don't judge me, you sanctimonious bastards!) Sosa gets his first of the season, and the Crew carry off an unlikely one-goal victory, but lose another player to injury due to a ridiculous three player collision that happens because they're basically playing on a U12 field. The other goal comes from Zardes, by the way, on a miraculous header from midfield in high wind that only two other people in the world could have made - one of them being Martin Riggs. Crew win 2-1. (NY's goal comes from former Crew Prospect, Ben Sweatt.) And just to prove the strength of my conviction in this matter, I voted lose by one in the Grouchy point contest that only matters because I couldn't Sheep League my way out of a wet paper bag. So yes, I'm hedging my bets. Given the overall theme of the traffic this week, I'd like to close this post with the immortal words of Frank Drebbin. "All I know is, don't bet on the white guy."
If only CB9k wasn't mailing it in, maybe we'd see some of the kids play. Or a different formation. Or hell, even two forwards on the field at the same time (gasp!). I mean, everyone knows we're going to give up goals, so why not try to win 4-3? What's the worst that can happen - you lose another game in a lost season? You're not going to get the Wooden Spoon, but you solidify missing the playoffs. Whoop-tee-freaking-do. Go win a game, Caleb.
Yes, he has. He's not getting his first start of the season, he's getting his first GOAL of the season. If not, may lightning strike me dead.
Nonsense. We were toast two weeks ago. If we'd have won vs FCC & Toronto instead of drawing, a win tonight would have us in 7th.
We lose tonight and we are officially toast in my book but if we pull a Miracle upset then who knows but , I think we lose tonight J Williams will not be starting so what we can expect is the back line of Maloney , Crognale, Mensah and Afful Room will start but the other 6 spots who knows but I think Porter reads these boards And will plAy a 442 because we all agreed on something
"Difficult to be precise, Captain. I should say approximately seven thousand eight hundred twenty four point seven to one."
its-a me, Romario!! Tonight's #Crew96 Starting XI vs. @NYCFC 📺 @FOXSportsOH 📻 @971thefan & https://t.co/7uzg8Dh8U8#NYCvCLB pic.twitter.com/FFUwmP8VhA— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) August 21, 2019
Excited to see Sosa and Accam do some damage. Artur, Guzman, and Afful. Not so much. Porter really has an eye on last place FC Cincy here. Respect the ambition.
