hear hear! does giving to PETA count? or does my donation have to forward baptizing pagan babies and curing homosessuals?

Good for you, here is a gold star. Look, I am an agnostic myself, so I don't understand why describing Barack Obama is a prototypical Christian politician is so offensive to you.

Wait, did I take offense to that? No, I did not. In fact, I largely agree with that assessment. Why are you so into ascribing to me arguments I have not made just because I agree with parts of what your interlocutors are saying?

LOL! Obviously I've struck a nerve among the boards very "generious" pagans. ;)

If I have offended anyone with a tight checkbook I apologize.

    dear ann landers,

a person we're discussing post-prototypical christianity with is moving the semantic goal posts. would it be unatheist to call him an asshole?

    Not at all.

But it would be nice if you donated to the Red Cross once in a while.

Rationality starts with knowing what you don't know.

I don't know. Do you have a link for that?
This factoid has come up before. I wonder how the left and the right would stack up once you subtract giving to church operations (as opposed to church benevolence, which actually IS charity.) The money I give to the church that pays the electric bill and the pastor's salary ain't charity. It's a user fee.

Oh, and if I may post on topic for a moment, if I could change my vote, I'd change it to Rubio.

It still holds true, which makes sense because religious affiliation probably evenly split.

So lets see; a "post modern atheist" and a "typical Christian" are the same thing, and Christians give to charity but atheists don't.

So the same folks both do and don't give? The bookkeeping must get really confusing...

Why? Politicians go to church because it is expected of them... kind of like that stupid flag pin they must wear on their lapels to prove their patriotism. And atheists feel the need to prove they are charitable even if they are not (i.e. the Obamas).

Happy and sad. Happy that Walker is dropping out. Sad that he will start to focus on Wisconsin again. :(
