Group A: LA Galaxy, Morelia Group B: Santos, Real España Group C: Pumas, Dallas Group D: Monterrey, Seattle
Alajualense, Morelia, Colorado (or Metapan, that's a toss up to me), Santos, Dallas, Pumas, Monterrey and Seattle.
Santos Laguna, Colorado Rapids Monterrey, Los Cremas UNAM Pumas, Dallas Burn Monarcas Morelia, Alajuelense Book it.
Well Seattle is playing with 4 reserves, 4 bench players, and only 3 starters. So I no longer expect them to make it out of their group.
Well the way some of these people talk about these Central American teams (predicting Comunicaciones would advance out of the group), I figured Seattle wouldn't win 4-1, a man down, with 8 reserves on the pitch. LA also firmly dominated it's Honduran foe. Maybe the Costa Rican teams will look half decent?
Seattle has some pretty good depth with experience playing in multiple competitions successfully. 2 USOC championships and they played in CCL prelims and group stage last year. Just look at the back line, Hurtado, Ianni and Gonzalez were all starters on the team at some point. Fucito has been a starter at times. Evans has started a lot of games when healthy. Carrasco is turning into a solid backup for Alonso. Fernandez is a starter and Neagle is a regular sub and has a few game winners to his credit. Boss can be indecisive but can be a good shot stopper.
yeah I meant I wouldnt be surprised if they are eliminated in the quarters even against a non mexican team.
Well, those that had Dallas advancing probably don't have to revise theirs. That being said, don't read this as Pumas isn't good - they gave us all we could handle and were probably the better team for looooong stretches. Youth or no, that is a very good team. If anything, this game came down to a veteran team making That One Play and youth not being able to find a response. But make no mistake, they are going to be more than most teams can handle.
Yeah, I'm thinking those who picked against Seattle don't really have a choice at this point - revise or admit failure. I did think that LA was going to have the toughest group, looking forward to seeing how the games in that group go this week.
México is really sucking it up so far. I think they'll do better as the tournament proceeds because 1) the MLS teams are going to start getting fatigued and 2) the second round is in MLS's offseason and 3) class rises to the top. But, amazingly, if the tournament ended today only one Méxican team would go through, and they would only do it on goal differential.
Only 2 teams eliminated (Motagua and Heridiano) only 2 teams qualified (Santos and Seattle). The rest will come down to the last week. Pretty good over all, I guess some leagues using B-teams is good for the competition.
My Predictions: if ( mexican teams take the rest of concacrap league seriously) Group A: 1.Morelia, 2.Alajualense. Group B: 1.Santos, 2.Metapan. Group C: 1.UNAM, 2.Dallas. Group D: 1.Monterrey, 2.Seattle. Assuming quarterfinals games will be between (1st places vs 2nd places) We'll have an all mexican semifinals, which honestly will be kind of boring. Hopefully Mugrelia (crappiest mexican team) gets eliminated in quarterfinals. Final: Monterrey vs Santos/Pumas Champions: Monterrey, (if they recover their full potential) or Santos.
I hope I'm wrong... and don't get me wrong; they do have a good team and they could win in Honduras! of course the could. But... considering how Galaxy is so worry about "the conspiracy from Concacaf, Conmebol, UEFA and FIFA in general, so they don't go any further in this prestigious tournament" They are neglecting their game, letting the opponents get to their heads, an already eliminated team is very dangerous; especially at home, seen it soooo many times in Copa Libertadores... It would be nice having Galaxy in quarterfinals though! Even more a Galaxy vs Monterrey/Santos Final
Cool. I was just curious. You're right about eliminated teams being dangerous. Someone on one of these threads somewhere reminded folks of what happened to Houston a couple tournaments ago. One possible difference -- all LA needs to do is win one of the next two games (or have Salt Lake lose) and they have the Supporters' Shield. And being as the first of those two games is against Salt Lake, that simplifies things Upshot: by the time LA plays Motagua, their MLS season should have been settled, and they'll be playing reserves in MLS. So their first team players will be getting rest and be entirely available for the final CCL game. Not saying it guarantees anything, but it certainly makes a win there more likely.
So unless the LA Galaxy beats Motagua by more than 3 goals, all 4 Mexican groups will finish top of the groups.
The shock is that I was wrong, there is no way Morelia can win their group. Some one corrected me in another thread.
According to Concacaf http://www.concacaf.com/staticFiles/8c/91/0,,12813~168332,00.pdf Morelia Tops Group A (for now)... So, if LA draw/loose .. Morelia will finish 1st. http://www.concacafchampions.com/page/CL/Schedule/0,,12856,00.html
