I wish some Spanish clubs would offer, right now, contracts to Deschamps, van Marwijk and Hareide. :sneaky:

We've never really had a "great keeper" until now..... Gallese has become the stepping stone for a Peru team that used to be weak defensively. He should go to a top league after the WC

Agree, Gallese may become the best Peruvian keeper ever.

And to think that he got dropped during qualifying for a silly mistake in the home game against Chile, keeping the ball in play when a player had just gone down injured, leading to Chile's second goal IIRC. I ran through all my fingernails watching Diego Penny in goal against Paraguay :D

But since the original question asked about his club form as well: I don't know why, but he's been terrible for Veracruz and got benched. Night and day from his NT form

For those of us in the USA ...
...the FOX Sports 1 Commentary of Peru-Denmark is going to be very interesting.
Jorge Pérez-Navarro and Mariano Trujillo who usually just do Mexico games in English will be teaming up for this game too.
IT will be interesting to hear them do a game like this to say the least. (Some of you will hate it )

I do not know where you got your statistics from, but Andreas Cornelius has 8 goals in 19 NT games for Denmark, so obviously he has done better than Krohn-Dehl and Jørgensen .. and we should not forget that Eriksen has scored 16 of his 22 goals in his last 21 NT games ... so in the past he used to be pretty toothless when playing for the NT, while he is now scoring more goals for Denmark on average that even the best of strikers would be able to do ...

May be the best peruvian goal keeper ever, but at international standards, he is just slightly above average. He is very prone to positional errors, which have meant him more than once, very foolish goals for his opponents (not only against us). He has very good reflexes though, with which he tends to minimize his weakness.

Good thing for him, is that he is still relatively young (for a keeper, 29 years old is still being young), and if he works hard and studies his movements more, he may become better.

Fun fact ... the Swedish 1st keeper at the WC-18, Robin Olsen, was actually born to Danish parents and also used to hold a Danish passport, but grew up in Sweden and picked the Swedish NT because he would stand no chance of actually playing for Denmark...

Well, he is very smart, doing so.

Denmark is one of those countries that produce great goalkeepers by the dozens, so to get the job, even if you are good at it, becomes really difficult.

Well ... lets be honest here ...with all due respect for the keepers of France, Peru and Australia, then Schmeichel is the best keeper in this group ..

The father is one of the top 3 best keepers in the history of the game... the son Kasper Peter Schmeichel is one of the main reasons why an otherwise average looking PL team like Leicester was able to become English champions ...

    Nope.

Don't push it to that level.

Lev Yashin (USSR), Ladislao Mazurkievickz (Uruguay), Gordon Banks (England) and Ricardo Zamora (Spain), were legends.

And only below them come a lot of more more modern times goalkeepers, among whom, you could include Peter Schmeichel.

AFAIK, he wasn't benched, but left out twice because injuries. No wonder because Veracruz defense is close to non–existent.

In that video I linked, a good number of saves are with Veracruz (the team with the large "V" in its jersey). Rivals shoot him at point–blank distance at will.
