Then again if they didn't it would be to be expected, the earthquake yesterday wasn't just another one, and it isn't like Argentina is next door from Japan(to make things more complicated), i heard that they may suspend the whole season of their leagues too.
That's ridiculous. "I heard"... "I was told"... "They say" Once again, where are you getting your sources from? We get it guys, the tsunami sucked and all... but the show must go on. Japan FA confirmed today that the friendlies on March 26 and 29 will be played as scheduled.

Note that they mention a B team when Olé actually questioned the participation of Mexico and Japan being aware that they were going to be handicapped for the Copa América being a tournament not from their confederation.

According to Japan's newspaper, clubs at J league are requesting the declination of Copa America. So if ever Japan can participate, the squad will consist of those playing in Europe. While they are mostly Japan's best players, the lack of subs is critical... I heard Mexico was going to visit with the U-23 team but rejected, so there is little hope for Japan's participation...
And got to see if they can get such a squad, remember that since this isn't their confederation the clubs aren't forced to release their players, add to that that the european clubs are the ones bitching the most about such...
Crazy situation but Japan is doing what they think is best for their domestic League and economy. The Group may just have to be played with 3 teams since USA ,Costa Rica, or Honduras would have to send U22 teams like Mexico. (And that could be a disaster.)
They haven't actually withdrawn yet its CONMEBOL's decision and the best Japan would be able to do is the best of all players who aren't regular in the J.League and who's european clubs would let them go. So the Asian games squad with as many of the european players as possible, so best case scenario is 8 of the starting XI plus 5 of the subs and the rest of the squad filled with U22's
CONMEBOL spokesman Nestor Benitez suggested Costa Rica or Canada as possible replacements but said nothing had been decided. “CONMEBOL will make a final decision relying on the consensus of its members,” Benitez said. http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/news?slug=ap-copaamerica-japanout
I'm hearing two different things, that you just said and another that puts Costa Rica, Honduras and United States, and Toti Pasmann(as unrealiable as that may be) added Spain, which doesn't seem likely to the very least, this is also picked up by Olé. EDIT: It's on the spanish press already: http://www.as.com/futbol/articulo/japon-disputara-copa-america-argentina/20110404dasdasftb_55/Tes & http://www.sport.es/default.asp?idpublicacio_PK=44&idioma=CAS&idnoticia_PK=740546&idseccio_PK=805 EDIT 2: More on the issue, Telam claims that Spain is the first option and includes Australia: http://www.telam.com.ar/vernota.php?tipo=N&idPub=217668&id=412579&dis=1&sec=1
Telam also says the same that Costa Rica is the one with the most chances: http://www.telam.com.ar/vernota.php?tipo=N&idPub=217696&id=412617&dis=1&sec=1 Evidently they're running out of possibilities. But based on what they said earlier it's up to them to pick between the possibilities.
