Doesn't really fit this time, since all the teams in CONCACAF that did qualify have a bunch of MLS players on their squads. Yup, Mexico included - don't get mad at me, ask Osorio why he keeps calling them up
They were also NOT MLS when the processo started. They moved afterward and Osorio criticized their moves publicly.
Exaggerations aside, the worst part is we can tell they play in MLS. Didn’t Gio claim to be in the best shape of his life? Physically I believe him but sadly his play has plummeted.
The lack of consequences for ending in last place has made players lax. Por eso los critica Jermaine Jones. That dude from stanford turned down a move to the Bundesliga cause his parents bought him a puppy. Dafuq. They must have offered Gio and Jona a bunch of cats.
Lol... US trying to set up a summer tournament with top teams that didn't make wc like Italy, Holland, Chile, etc. Talk about participation medals... Lol
Freedom Cup 2018 Final to be played July 4th. Nads come from behind to win final heroicly. I can picture it already
No mames Paul...la verdad no sabes nada. We know mls is your league but it really is bottom feeder level futbol.
Mexico was tongue-in-cheek, but you have to be completely obtuse to ignore the large number of MLS players on the Costa Rica and Panama squads that are going to the WC. MLS is what it is, but in and of itself it's not the reason the US are staying home.
Costa Rica has more domestic players in its squad than MLS players. They average about 5 MLS players per call up. I get the point you're trying to make but there is no need to over exaggerate.
The reason that the dos santos brothers are slowly getting weeded out of the national squad team is precisely due to playing in a mickey mouse league. The same thing is happening to dempsey/bradley ect ect and all the other fools who couldv continued playing in europe but chose to go MLS. One could argue that MLS is the reason they did not qualify and its completely plausible. Vela is not even in MLS yet and you could tell that he is in retirement mode. When one of the failures of Liga MX can thrive in MLS you know there is a big difference in level of play (erick torres)
Jonathan ain't getting weeded out of the team. As far as technique and field awareness goes, he's the best midfielder Mexico has and he's just entering his prime. His strengths as a player won't be affected by playing in MLS, despite what many want to believe and his performance vs Poland was lauded by the international press and even many in the Mexican press. Sure, he lacks a bit of rhythm and is probably not in top physical shape but I don't see any legitimate argument for leaving him off the roster for next summer. Gio is a different story though. Biggest mistake fans can make at this point is bunching the dos santos brothers up, as if they were one single, collective mind with the same footballing attributes. Gio has clearly taken a step back this season and his inclusion in the 2018 WC is far less certain than Jona's.
I don't necessarily agree... I think Jona would have been much sharper play-wise had he been playing at Villareal instead of last-placed Galaxy. It's normal for an athlete to lose a bit of his level when he takes such a big step down. And while I agree that we currently don't have anyone who can replace Jona in the midfield, it's only a matter of time (probably post-WC) until he gets phased out if he plans to stick it out in the MLS for the remainder of his career.
3 out of 6 teams qualify from the Hex outright and fourth in playoff... As the largest league in terms of teams/players, of course they will have players on many if not most teams... How many MLolSers were on that Trinidad C team that beat the nads?
I don't know about jona getting to his prime but what I can agree on is that he still has the skill to play good and be a starter . MLS is not helping him in any way or doing him any favor though . To me his prime was Villarreal
