I believe these individual anecdotes (either side, doesn't matter) as much as I believe the stories politicians tell that go: "Well, I was in rural Pennsylvania, and I met this retired steel worker named Jim. Jim told me that..." For all the garbage that this campaign brought forth, there was a distinct decline in those anecdotes, which was nice.
It was replaced with the more preposterous ... " A lot of people are saying", "It's been said", "I have heard", ... etc
Not sure how this is surprising ... Depending on numbers you believe, I've seen Trump credited with 18-29% of Latino vote. That means every 4th or 5th Latino you pass on the street is a Trump voter. As for the tweet, that's a stupid thing to say to a stranger. First of all that's some serious racial profiling. Second of all some major stereotyping to assume you know someone's politics based on their race.
Its probably a lie like this famous one that libs like to use: (I’m waiting in line behind a woman speaking on her cellphone in another language. Ahead of her is a white man. After the woman hangs up, he speaks up.) Man: “I didn’t want to say anything while you were on the phone, but you’re in America now. You need to speak English.” Woman: “Excuse me?” Man: *very slow* “If you want to speak Mexican, go back to Mexico. In America, we speak English.” Woman: “Sir, I was speaking Navajo. If you want to speak English, go back to England.”
If you take the exit polls against the advice of the company that does the exit polling, then yeah, Trump got a lot of Latinos and a smattering of Black voters. But the exit polls are NOT designed to measure sub-groups (minorities, small regional religions like Mormonism) with any precision. For sub-groups, you need to look at select precincts that are overwhelmingly of X group and go from there. When you do that, you find that Trump was right in line with Romney and McCain with Blacks and Latinos. There was an article posted somewhere about this, notably with a focus on Latinos. Written by a Stanford/UCLA team of researchers... But I'm Latino, and I'm lazy, so I'm not going to go through the trouble of opening up a tab and cranking up the Google Machine to do its thing. Plus, I haven't had coffee yet, bro. Just ... lay off of me.
I think we all know DJT didn't "win" the election, Hillary lost. And lost big. Dems have only themselves to blame for this one.
But even the bold section surprised me on the the Latino reflections (I think that is the name) poll had Trump at 18% compared to Romney 21%, I was expecting a much larger drop, but I should have known better, even the Saturday before I had an argument with my uncle (only a few years older than me) and well I guess I underestimated the number of Latinos that would allow their fear of gays and Muslims trump the Mexicans are rapists comments.
