My son just alerted me that his friend Jahon Rad signed a USL 2 deal with Sporting 2. Jahon & his twin brother had committed to NC State, where their brother Cyrus is a walk on. https://www.sportingkc.com/post/202...ng-kc-academy-defender-kaveh-rad-professional
Wake commit John Tolkin signed a HG deal with NYRB on the 14th. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020/01/14/new-york-red-bulls-sign-john-tolkin-homegrown-contract Between John Tolkin and Aristotle Zarris, Wake would've had a wonderfully literary team this year. Oh well.
Another Wake Forest recruit for 2020 is turning pro: https://www.lafc.com/post/2020/01/25/lafc-signs-18-year-old-midfielder-bryce-duke
Interesting, wonder if he expressed desire to be with another club...RSL was “ok” with him going to Wake for a year but LAFC buys him. 5’7” 145 reported height and weight...maybe that played a part?
Clemson loses a big one as Tanner Tessman signs an HG deal with FC Dallas. Breaking; Tanner Tessmann has signed a Homegrown contract with #FCDallas.Contract was signed on Tuesday. He should be eligible to play this weekend. pic.twitter.com/UqRUjnnJph— 3rd Degree (@3rdDegreeNet) February 27, 2020
And another one. NC State commit Jose Gallegos, who turned heads when he scored a brace against FC Dallas in preseason a couple weeks ago, has signed with USL's San Antonio FC. “The beginning of something special.”SAFC signs forward Jose Gallegos (@JoseGal46512203) to a multi-year professional contract!Full release: https://t.co/tK4CK4Q7py #Defend210 pic.twitter.com/sdFVbJIElI— San Antonio FC (@SanAntonioFC) February 27, 2020
Yet another ACC recruit opts for the pros. This time Duke feels the sting. 1278793991975243776 is not a valid tweet id
With the very real possibility, there will be no soccer this year, I would think you would see many kids signing overseas in areas that handled Covid-19 better than the US did. Not looking good right now for college soccer.
Question: An international player signs a NLI to go to a mid-major this September, but due to COVID-19 is hesitant about going and decides to delay college for 6 months and play locally at a European club (unpaid) until January. He's playing well and his dream uni (top 5) contacts him and offers him a spot. Can he decommit? Would I be able to find rules somewhere on the NCAA website?
The NLI is binding BUT... the coach of the school he signed with can let him out of it. And things are so fluid right now, chances are good they would.
Another would-be recruit has opted for pro soccer over college. Guess what conference the school he'd committed to plays in. G'ahead, guess. Nico Carrera, a member of the US U17 World Cup team last year, has signed with Holstein Kiel in the German 2 Bundesliga. He had previously signed a Letter of Intent with Louisville.
See if you can spot a trend. Adam Armour, Nuremberg (Germany) - Duke (ACC) Nico Carrera, Holstein Kiel (Germany) - Louisville (ACC) Bryce Duke, LAFC (MLS) - Wake Forest (ACC) Jose Gallegos, San Antonio FC (USL) - NC State Kaveh Rad, Sporting Kansas City 2 (USL) - NC State (ACC) Tanner Tessman, FC Dallas (MLS) - Clemson (ACC) John Tolkin, New York Red Bulls (MLS) - Wake Forest (ACC)
Hmmm. Colleges in the Carolinas OR who's last coach played in the Carolinas.... ACC generally gets the best players - it shouldn't be a big surprise those would be the most professional ready. Years ago, when ACC ran a proper tournament, it's no surprise why most MLS teams attended the 4 game (in a day) festival.
LAFC just signed defender Mohamed Traore, a Senegalese kid who had spent the past four years at HS powerhouse Montverde. He had signed a LOI with Central Florida. Ironically, UCF is in one of the few conferences still slated to play college soccer this fall.
