I know some here rated Gribbin. He's been released and is apparently quiting football. People suspect it's due to all his injury problems.
I rated him and loved it when he scored against barca and did Ronaldo celebration.. Really sad to hear abt him...
Why United fans should be excited by Dylan Levitt. https://www.manchestereveningnews.c.../manchester-united-dylan-levitt-news-16399028 This coming season will be a big one for him at youth level, as he will be expected to build upon the promise he showed this past term (where he was really good at times btw). Good idea from Giggs to select him for the Welsh squad: even if he doesn't get to play being involved and training with the senior team, is a good thing for him.
A look at what happened to Callum Gribbin. https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...news/man-utd-callum-gribbin-released-16398934 Such a pity for him and textbook example of how injuries can derail what looked like a potentially promising career. Gribbin did look very good a couple of years back and seemed to be headed towards good things. If he is actually done with football, I really hope that he's keeping his head up and has a fallback plan for life away from the game.
I feel at home at Manchester United - Aliou Traore. https://www.goal.com/en/news/man-ut...ome-at-old-trafford/ixq6hjnip0q619qgd9mylubnj That is great to hear in what should be a big year for him with the U23s (especially if they're guided by a good coach). Really did not look out of place at all after he made the step up to that group towards the end of this past season.
At least we rock it signing Academy products. Manchester United have struck a deal to sign Real Zaragoza's 16-year-old winger Mateo Mejia - reports #MUFC https://t.co/xDf3KXYFsG pic.twitter.com/P53AwVRT77— Football España (@footballespana_) June 24, 2019
They're all attackers at the moment, but yeah, we definitely seem to be planning for the future, knowing full well the present is an utter mess. Also feels like a bit of a power play from Butt, he's setting himself up to be hugely influential when these 16-17 year olds are 21-22.
United are linked with another highly touted kid.. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...ed-consider-move-lyon-wonderkid-mathis-rayan/ Because why not? Certainly can't accuse Butt of not taking his job very seriously and going after top talent. Still needs to find a good U23 coach for the coming season has to be high on the agenda though.
More signings for the academy. Looks like we are putting in a massive effort to bring in EU talent before Brexit. Now if only the first team was ran as proactively as our youth teams. Along with goalkeeper Johan Guadagno United have signed Mateo Mejia from Real Zaragoza & CB Bjorn Hardley from NAC Breda— jb8521 (@jb_8521) June 30, 2019
Butt looks to have found his new U23 coaches in Quinton Fortune and former academy member, Neil Wood. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...place-neil-wood-quinton-fortune-charge-under/
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Neil Wood as lead coach of our #MUAcademy Under-23s.Neil will be assisted by former Red Quinton Fortune in the upcoming season. #MUFC— Manchester United (@ManUtd) July 4, 2019
https://www.skysports.com/football/...s-u23-coaches-and-give-nicky-butt-bigger-role well, at least there is restructure somewhere in this club
Can we just Butty the DoF and find someone of his choosing to be the new Academy guy. I just like the competence he is showing in his job. It is refreshing.
It really would not be the worst idea, to be honest. The job he's done at the Academy, especially in terms of recruiting and bringing in top talent from all over Europe, speaks well for him. He's probably developed a nice list of contacts and forged some relationships that could serve him in good stead for the job. Would still prefer to have a top notch, best in class type but if that is not the route we are going to take, Butt would not be a bad candidate, considering some of the names being bandied about.
I mean at this point, he is more qualified than some of the ex players being bantered about. He understands the club structure and etc. If we must pick someone from within the club that won't threaten Ed's ego, Butt seems like the clear choice.
Per Simon Stone: Nicky Butt confirmed as United's new head of 1st team development, reporting directly to OGS. He will continue to be a key contributor on all major Academy decisions and will be part of the Technical Board on wider football leadership. Nick Cox now head of academy. Butt: "Man Utd is in my DNA. Proud moment. Am passionate about nurturing, developing + coaching talent to become top players at this club. Under Ole’s leadership, our vision will ensure we continue to provide right environment for players to thrive”
https://twitter.com/sistoney67 Additional info from Simon Stone regarding Butt's new position and responsabilities: "United want NB to take responsibility for identification + transition of players from junior to senior football. Role involves some coaching. Won’t be involved in transfers. Club still intend to appoint ‘technical director’ but scope will be to suit club needs."
