So if Giovinco is the best player I will ever see live, does this mean that Paul Mariner was wrong and Andrew Weideman wasn't actually the best finisher of the modern era?

Interesting. It's no secret that Pirlo is a colossal liability defensively. I wonder if Vieira is coming to the conclusion that it isn't possible or worth making up for his inadequacies at this point with the roster that he has, or is allowed to have in MLS.

Back to Giovinco, this depends on Italy's forward depth at this point, but from my perspective he fully deserves to be in the squad

Giovinco certainly deserves a call up and with all the foreigners in the Serie A, Italy's current midfield/forward corps/prospects are not all that great. Another reason why there are calls for him and Pirlo to head the Euro team....

He started last night after all it seems....now if you see a milk carton with Frank Lampard on it...don't be surprised.

I watched that game last night as well. Pirlo came off in the 77th minute and looked pretty good.
Every time I've seen NYCFC so far, I've been in awe of David Villa. Him and Gio are the two best DP's in the league, it's safe to say. The difference is our guy is only 29 and in his prime. Advantage TFC.

If Giovinco does get the call up to the NT he could be out of our line-up by as early as May 18th.

There is no limit to what His Sebiness can do....his attendance at today's Raptor game was announced with the Raptors trailing 25-24.....once room could sense his presence it was game over...Raptors win 116-89....that is a 92-75 point run that is totally due to Seba Giovinco!

The Juventus and Milan players weren't called in because of the Coppa Italia Final. Bonucci is suspended for the final but Juve rejected the call up for the stage. I believe in protest to the FIGC. He will probably go though later on and I have a feeling Giovinco and Pirlo may also.

That was the impression I got from what I read - but I honestly don't follow the Italian team enough to know what from what

It's good news for TFC. Although I'm certain the FO and MLS would love to see their marquee player representing them at the Euros this summer.

Judging by the looks of the current roster and seeing both Giovinco's and Pirlo's improved play in MLS in recent weeks, I don't think they are inferior to their Italian counterparts just called up....

Yeah that kind of sucks for him. I doubt he is any worse than the other guys who were picked regardless of which league he plays in.

My brother follows the Italian media, and he was telling me a couple months ago that Giovinco was never even mentioned as a possibility in any of the Italian papers. Seems like he's forgotten. Like I said earlier, hope this doesn't effect him negatively. He has seeemed distracted of late.

whether players are deserving or not , rarely are players taken from outside Serie A. Darmian of Manchester United and maybe Motta and Sirigu of PSG Pelle and Ogbinna but that's about it. I think this is actually the first time this many have been chosen from outside of italy

If he was going to start or, even, be amongst the first off the bench...I would love the wee fella to go....but if he (as it seems) is fighting to be the last man on the squad I would much rather he was here with us.

Losing a player for weeks is bad enough....losing him and him never actually playing is far worse.
