They play Seattle on Wednesday. We might get a whole smorgasbord of U17s in that one.

We often talk about yanks being discounted but there are def positives. I wonder if marketing had an influence. Eg green with bayern in usa a couple of years ago.

100%. However, it doesn’t always translate into anything meaningful, as shown by Green.

Can anyone compare him to a current player for me? I'm having a hard time picturing it. Thx

It's hard to say because he doesn't really have a position defined yet. Is he a Thomas Mueller type who kills you by dynamic positioning and play from the outside cutting it? Is he Robben who is far more direct? Is he more of a central hub, like Pulisic has played at times for the USMNT or Reus or Gotze have played like for Dortmund? Is he a lone or second striker? I don't even think he knows, but I could see him developing into any (or all) of those spots and if his trajectory stays on the same path (huge if) he could be as good as one of those guys. He's precocious and young and in a great spot, so only time will tell.

His mom and dad. Technical ability and calmness of claudio. Athletic ability and more attack mindedness of Danielle.

The more I see of Gio the more I think he's actually been quite underrated as an athlete for a while now. He's kind of lanky and a long-strider so he never looks like he's moving that fast, but then you see clips like the recent one at Dortmund where he's blowing past people with the ball. Also in a recent article, it was said he's been able to dunk since he was 14.

The fact that he's with the first team for their US trip has more to do with the fact that he's American than that he's actually close to breaking in with them, but in recent months I've become quite a bit more confident that his game will be able to translate beyond the youth level.

im in the opposite camp. it seemed like gio could play hero ball because he was so physically gifted that it put at risk the stunting of his soccer iq. where i might be underrating is that he is athletically superior to grown men who play first division soccer, which is truly wild

Hes in the best youth situation in the world in my opinion. The level of the club combined with their motivation to play youth is top of the line....most other clubs that produce elite youth and develop young talent dont have the pedigree of BD.....Ajax is up there with them

Anyone know if the friendly tonight is being streamed? LiveSoccerTV lists no broadcast info, but maybe one of the teams is streaming it?

I've been wondering the same thing. Cant find any info on viewing options.

As far as comparisons, I've only seen him at u17 qualifying but he reminded me of Dempsey ironically enough. Didnt seem very athletic, but smart and a ton of confidence to go "try shit" as arena said once of dempsey.

Nah. Let’s put all our hopes and dreams on the kid now and then overreact when he has his first setback.
