Maybe I’m tripping and I know some people dislike player comps (if you dislike them...then you’ve never used a simile in your life) but his long stride and impressive close control reminds me of a different German. It’s the way they can glide by players but not appear to have an intensely quick burst. Again, I could be tripping but this is the guy I’ve thought of multiple times when watching Gio.
I'll take it. I think this is what it is like when you have possibilities at the youth level. Everybody looks a little like somebody. Fingers crossed that he and a few others come good and are ready when the real turnover at the Nat level takes place.
"Giovanni Reyna has all the prerequisites. He's very complete in what he exudes as a player. He has a fine technique, a good speed, a good game overview - there are a lot of good facilities laid."- Michael Skibbe (BVB U19's Manager) https://t.co/whCK0T2SCN— USMNT Only (@usmntonly) July 7, 2019
I think realistic goals for him are to play for Dortmund by the end of the season and make the Olympic team at just 17 years old by that point. He is an exceptional talent...quite possibly the best we've ever had. Being a world class player will be dependent upon gaining experience, developing unselfishness, and anticipation.
Like the quote that his coaches see him as a central midfielder. My only gripe with him is he plays pretty selfish and a lot of 'hero ball' from what I've seen with him with the U-17's where he was stationed often on the wing with fewer options in front of him. I think if he he has more passes available, it's more likely he'll be less selfish. Great pedigree and natural leader though, excited to see what kind of impact he makes this year.
He was selfish when deployed in the middle as well, that’s just how he plays at the moment. When he was put on the wing the offense had a better flow. 4:0 heißt es am Ende. Die weiteren Tore erzielten Moukoko, Knoop und Reyna nach einem ganz starken Solo. https://t.co/b4JXiyOhNU— BVBJugend (@BVBJugend) July 12, 2019 “4: 0 it says in the end. The other goals scored Moukoko, Knoop and Reyna after a very strong solo.” This account said in the replies that Reyna was floating between the wing and 10 spot in this game
He'll be joining up with the pros for their US tour. The other youth player that will be joining is Immanuel Pherai. https://www.ruhrnachrichten.de/loka...trainer-michael-skibbe-souveraen-1427316.html
That video clearly demonstrates why I'm so incredibly high on Reyna. Even putting his pedigree aside, he's got the speed, size and technical ability to one day excel at a team like Dortmund. As an aside, NYCFC isn't doing players like him any favors by not having their own USL squad. He looked noticeably more athletic than the competition in the clip above and a player like him optimally needed to be playing against men and forced into solving problems with his mind. We'll see how things go for him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he turns some heads on their summer tour and generally makes a push for their first team faster than expected (i.e. 6 months to 2 years).
Yeah, I don't want to jinx anything, but if we have any prospect who's likely to have a parallel trajectory to Pulisic, it's him (and not just because it's the same club).

Thats really interesting that reyna gets to go... I wonder if moukoko could play friendlies abroad. Not to belabor the point but he is the legit adu heir.
