Father Claudio Reyna got his first taste of Champion's League action at the age of 26. At that point, he had already gone to two World Cups, captained a Bundesliga team, and made a multi-million dollar transfer. Gio is definitely benefiting from BVB's philosophy on playing young players and flipping them for an insane profit - they appear motivated to provide him opportunities. As an elite youth prospect, all we can wish for him is to be given an opportunity to play and grow.
U17's came from behind to beat Mexico 2-1 in the Four Nations Tournament. Reyna scores the equalizer and Pepi scored the winner. Reyna was also the captain.
Forgive the ignorance but being on Dortmund’s A list for CL games means he is eligible to play for any CL game?
Yep, in a couple years (if he stays) he can be put on the B-list and count as a homegrown player for CL regulations purposes. Pretty sure there's a "re-registration" after January

Per the match report on BVB web site Reyna was involved in the first goal and played 75 minutes. BVB won 2:0. The U19s play Barca on Tuesday in the start of the UEFA youth league and then Leverkusen on Sunday.

The BVB Dortmund youth site describes the Borussen as starting very hesitantly and intimidated and were down 0:1 after a few minutes. About half way through the first half a couple of BVB midfielders stepped up their game and started winning balls and most of the BVB attacks started running through Reyna. Reyna had a shot stopped in the 40th minute and hit the side netting (outside) hard just before half. Reyna was also very involved in the second half (see above) and was subbed off in the 90th minute. Seems he is an impact player for the U19s!
both americans wore #11, played left sided forward, & were influential for their teams - tho klf only played the 1st half.
watched those match highlights and that dortmund side look like one that could use more than one ball. not a lot of unselfishness on display
Article in Germany said that Reyna trained with the first team on Friday, but did not travel with them to Frankfurt and will play with the U19s instead. Not sure if it was the translation, but it framed this as Reyna getting a real look and not as a reward or as a fill in for injured first team players. Just something to keep an eye on.

Now this is a goal to get more excited about, not like that tap-in v. Barcelona. Actually created this one, and and it was a tough finish. Beat a double team, setting up the deepest defender with a hip turn to his right, then quickly downshifted to the left, and looks like he slotted it in a tight space to beat the defender near post. I'm not really a fan of players taking shots with their left from that angle. Still a nice goal but against Barca's U19s, he tried the same thing and only hit the side-netting of the goal.
I’m hoping he gets a few games after the winter break. Although it’s more likely to happen if there are injuries / a few players in poor form.
