and another one with the help from a friend. Miguel, Miguel... MIGUEL! MIGUEL! ... just sent your chances of winning to hell. (meaning miguel gallardo just saved a goal) we could use noel or miguel interchangably. ya dig. please comment
So...do any of the fellas who went to meet the Gift at his arrival have any first impressions that they would like to share with the rest of the class?
Seemed like a very nice guy. Looked fit, though obviously that doesn't translate into match fitness precisely. Good height, good build, seemed very happy to be in Austin. I didn't get a good chance to see him dribble or anything, but he did bounce his luggage on his head all the way to Phil's car, and that was impressive.
I would agree with Blackburn that it was hard to measure his athletic ability as he was wiped from both a trans-Atlantic flight and having left his family back in the UK. However, from a fan interaction, he was brilliant. As you can see we had a youngster there who Gifton interacted brilliantly with, even signing his Aztex ball. He didn't complain at all about photographs, and seemed genuinely moved at having a group meet him at the airport. I judge him as being humble and gracious to a degree that will make him very popular with fans. Now, I just hope his soccer skills equal his personality.
If they do, we have the MVP of USL-1 for 2009... Very nice guy, glad to have him on the team, can't wait to see him tear through the Revolution defenders and put several in the back of the net. I wish nothing but the best for Gifton in his US career. Let's hope that he is around for a long time and we develop a church, too!
We've not heard anything since his arrival. The teams has been getting ready for this Saturday, and one report from these sessions is that the team is getting along well and the progress is positive. However, nothing specific about Gifton. If you haven't seen it, you can check out some pictures of Gifton's arrival in Austin at www.chanticosarmy.com or www.austinaztex.com. We'll have more information about Gifton after Saturday's match, so check those sites then.
Not soccer or fitness-related news (though it could be related to a best espresso shot), but I was talking up the Aztex with a guy I know last Saturday, and he said "I think I met someone from the Aztex." He works at a Starbuck's and some guy came in on a quiet evening and talked about how he had moved here to play for the Aztex. After asking my friend a few more questions, I'm pretty sure that it was Gifton. For the local readers, it was the Starbuck's at Mopac and 2222.
Condolences to the friends and family of moussambani. His infectious enthusiasm for Gifton's arrival here in Austin really helped set the tone for getting excited about this upcoming season. He will be missed.
All, I spoke with Gifton last night at length at our local, and gave him the news about Moussambani. Unfortunately, I didn't have the information about who Moussambani really was (if you know what his real name is, I would ask you private message me). Gifton was very saddened to hear the news, and ask me to pass on to the entire Elche FC family, and especially Moussambani's family, his deepest condolensces. You are all in Gifton's thoughts.

Hi. First of all, thanks a lot for all your attemptions. I must tell you than Moussambani was the name -the nick, really- of one of Elche's supporters who most deeply followed and supported Gifton all along his time at Elche and even after. He and calamardo, was the responsible of check all the scores of his matches in England after he left Elche and tell it to the rest of us. He was really one of Gifton biggests fans in Elche. So because of this, we'd like to ask you for a favour. Could it be posible to tell Gifton if he could celebrate just the first of the goals with de Texans remenbering Moussambani?
