Zak Whitbread comes to mind. Liverpool reserves to Millwall (league one) to Norwich (league one), promotion to the Championship, promotion to the Premier League, albeit with a lot of spells on the shelf. Then again, no senior caps.

Zak blew his hamstring three times with Norwich, IIRC. Otherwise he'd have spent more time in the EPL.

By the time he went to L'ester he was basically done, all that was left was decadence.

Yelldell must have more 2/3 Bundesliga matches than any other Yank Abroad. Okay maybe that guy who played in the 3 Bundesliga and now manages at his former club.

Enochs has 359 appearances, but of course there was no 3. Liga back then. Osnabruck yo-yo ed back and forth between 2. Bundesliga and the Regionaliga. There might be a few folks who surpass him for that as a result.

When he retired in 2008, Enochs had racked up 12 continuous seasons with Osnabruck - unheard of in the post-Bosman era - and there were a hell of a lot of changes in not just the composition but the nature of the RLs in that period.

At one stage (from 2000 to 2008) the RLs were a D3 North and D3 South setup. The bulk of the teams in those divisions (the likes of Union Berlin, Fortuna Dusseldorf, Holstein Kiel) would be in BL2 or BL3 today so Joe would have been a D3 player during that period. Before that (from 1994-2000) there were 4 RLs with a crazily changeable promotion system. In those years, Joe'd have been playing a lot of today's RL sides, so assessing his level . . .

I'm not a Mod, or even a long time and respected poster. But I do know that this forum is about the club play of Yanks playing outside of the US and has nothing whatsoever to do with any individual's ability to earn (or not) call-ups to the NT. Objectively, some players would like to make it in Europe. Others are happy building a career in MLS. Whether or not this earns them a NT call up is a matter for another forum. Have a nice day.

Stop with the sanctimonious rhetoric. He was bad mouthing MLS for its own sake. I can mention maximizing his career in this forum and I chose to reference the USMNT. You're stating the obvious, any player can play anywhere they want. I was commenting less on Gyau and more on the fact that MLS doesn't need to be demeaned when a player chooses 3rd Bund.
