He proved decent in the 3.Liga, so if Duisburg goes down he has a better chance to become a regular.

Not good defending at all, but very good awareness and movement by Gyau that gave him time to set himself for the hit.

Is the safe bet on Duisburg going down this season?

Nearly 25% of the season over and they have yet to win a game, bottom of the table with 2 pts. and a -10 GD. Yes, they're a safe bet to go down.

Thanks. Outside of Gyau's highlights, I haven't been playing attention to 2.liga, so... yeah... yikes.

and they fired their coach to hire a new one in Lieberknecht.

whether Gyau finally gets chances or not, yet to be seen.

I watched his 63 minutes. He got subbed out at 1-1 and now Duisburg just scored a second.

He played as a striker, oddly, in a 4-3-1-2, almost always the highest man up the field. Duisburg is overmatched in this game and rarely have the ball.

Joe struggled to get on the ball much at all. He never ran the channels because most of the time his midfield was pressed back so he ended up fighting for a lot of headers with Köln’s centerbacks.

His pressing was important though and it seemed like he was playing with clear tactical instruction. On the rare occasion he found some space wide you could see his pace is still there. He got in a cross or two and had one 40-50 yard run with the ball. His touch looks decent. He needs to be wide though and he was playing dead center like he was told to be Brian McBride for the scout team.

Refreshing to see him play within a scheme at this level and move well. His stride is longer and he is not as quick on the turn as he was pre-injury.

I think he’s one to watch. We need wingers and we need burners and Joe is still just 26.

Not a bad plan at all to give him the forward role, he can't run for long since the last knee injury. If he comes in as a sub, for 20 minutes or so, playing on the wing is fine. But if he's starter, putting him as forward makes more sense. Good one.

Gyau was a second half sub today in Duisburg's 1-4 loss - played +10 minutes - so looks like he's healed up from his injury.

Lieberknecht: "Joe with his dynamism, speed and good pressing is a constant source of trouble for opponents." Possible plan: Gyau ("We want to signal against HSV!") Comes in, when the first defenders get tired ...
