Coaching errors & poor squad selection were not the result of luck.

We didn't deserve to keep a clean sheet, but I'm happy for the players that they held on. Terrible job by Jogi that played right into Chile's strengths; but luckily a combination of last ditch efforts and chilean mistakes kept the 0 on the board.

This was the worst we've played in a competitive match in over 11 years; so this win tastes a little sour, but I am so happy for those guys. If Jogi doesn't bring all 3 of Stindl, Brandt & Werner back to Russia...with WM-Mueller and Sane rounding out the attacking rotation...I will be furious.

well I'll man up. Props to Mustafi for finally playing well and not succumbing to pressure. No blunder mode Mustafi= good Mustafi. He just needs to stay consistent.

Goretzka is a danger on the counter; but this game showed how weak he is when asked to build up an attack under pressure. Werner has shown more ability to play in tight spaces; so he was vastly more impressive to me. Though LeGo probably did earn himself Khedira's spot in the final 23.

Mustafi and Rüdiger didn't play the perfect game, but they were solid and reliable when it mattered. Strong in the air, and never gave up an aerial dual to the shorter Chileans. Rüdiger's back tracking and tackling along the flank work was particularly commendable.

Ginter was surprisingly solid all tournament too. It's a shame that Sule and Henrichs didn't play more often.

Mustafi was an absolute mess until we were gifted the goal and stopped trying to build up. When we were just sitting back and punting the ball long he did fine.

Rudiger has had a good tourney though; have to give it to him. Hopefully he can continue to elevate his game at Chelsea and he learns well from Luiz & Christensen.

I just realized that with this win. Now the U17 WC is the only tournament that we have never won.

4 down,2 to go, with only 1 failure of a tourney, where the squad was nowhere near the best U20. And now, with the ECU19 and the WCU17 remaining. Monday we start the ECU19.

Absolutely. He's a massive talent; but he hasn't developed his ability to play in possession since moving to Schalke. He's wasting his time there. He's already dangerous on the counter.

Now he needs to learn wtf to do when he doesn't have all of that space to run into and defenders are running towards their own goal, instead of at him.

"JOACHIM LÖW: I’m immensely happy. This is a great feeling. I’m unbelievably proud of the team. We’ve had several disappointments and difficulties this season but we’ve now produced three and a half weeks of fantastic performances. We fought for every metre today and covered more ground than in our last few games. We were certainly a bit nervous at the start, but that’s to be expected with a young team. In the second half, the game was quite physical and hectic. Chile didn’t give us any time or space and they kept pressing but we were fully engaged and switched on. There was something magical about this final as for many of the players, it was their first. They will remember this day for the rest of their lives.

Every player who was here is now in a better position than before the Confed Cup. We achieved our aim – not only winning the title – but helping each player develop. Defending our World Cup title will be much more difficult but we have real strength in depth in Germany.

JULIAN DRAXLER: Every title is special. We had never played together before so it’s even more impressive that we won the tournament. We wanted to win and prove ourselves – we succeeded in doing just that.

SEBASTIAN RUDY: This is such a cool feeling. I think we deserved to win. We’ve been strong throughout the tournament and performed well as a unit. Chile put us under a lot of pressure and kept pushing us back so we tried to counterattack. All of the players here have put themselves in contention for selection for next summer. There is a long, hard season between now and then though.

TIMO WERNER: That was a hard-fought victory. In the second half, we dug deep and there wasn’t really much flowing football on show. We are pleased that our performance was enough in the end. We showed again exactly what this young team is capable of.

JOSHUA KIMMICH: Before the tournament, nobody would have expected us to win. We’ve surprised everyone, we’ve beaten all the continental champions and come out on top against Chile for a second time. We have grown from one game to the next, have come together and put in a fantastic performance in the semi-final. We weren’t perfect tonight, but we battled hard."

Demirbay was right to choose Germany, at least he's got a title, trophy and gold medal now

With Werner and Stindl's performance, Does Loew still need to give a chance for Max Kruse?

    Boots
    Golden-----Werner
    Silver--------Goretzka, Stindl

Silver Boot: Lars Stindl (Germany (3/0), Leon Goretzka (Germany; 3/0)
[Stindl and Goretzka share the adidas Silver Boot because they have the same number of goals and assists]

    more info
adidas Golden Ball: Julian Draxler (Germany)
Alongside Sebastian Rudy and Joshua Kimmich, Draxler was one of only three German players to feature in all five of his country's games at the Tournament of Champions, and he came into his own as the team's leader. The 23-year-old played in an attacking midfield role for the most part, and his pace, accurate shooting and notable ability to take on his marker helped keep the young German side on the right track. He also stood out for his ability to stay composed in difficult situations. "He's the player who can lead the team in the next few years, in the next generation after Neuer, Khedira, Hummels and Boateng," said head coach Joachim Low before the tournament. "That's why this is an important time for him." Draxler did not disappoint.

adidas Golden Boot: Timo Werner (Germany; 3 goals/2 assists)

The 21-year-old arrived in Russia as the best German attacker in the Bundesliga last season with 21 goals and eight assists, and he more than live up to expectations. His speed on the ball, aerial ability and outstanding positional sense indicate that Germany's search for a goalscorer-in-chief following Miroslav Klose's retirement looks to have come to an end.

    FIFA Fair Play Award: Germany
The young Germany team gave a wonderful account of themselves both on and off the pitch. They collectively earned just eight yellow cards in their five tournament outings, and committed just 66 fouls. Germany's initiative in handing out t-shirts to local fans with the words "Germany" written in Cyrillic was also very well received. In addition to the trophy, medals for players and officials and a certificate, the German Football Association also received a cheque for $10,000 USD, which must exclusively be put towards football equipment at youth level.

not sure how you share a boot??? I thought it went like this
    1-# of goals
    2-# assists
3-Minutes played, the less you play means your ahead.

Kruse's time while Löw is in charge may have come to a close. But that's fine, he's still by far the greatest poker playing footballer of all time. He owns Vegas every summer.

How on earth Draxler got the golden ball? .

For the WC 2018 squad, I think the new emerging players can safely replace the old spent Ozil + Mueller. Mueller now doesn't even have confidence on PKs, pathetic !.

Loew could go on with this new 3-6-1 formation:

    ------------Werner

    ------Reus--------Stindl

    -Hector--Kroos---Kheidira---Brandt
    -Hummels---Boateng-----Kimmich
    ------------Neuer

    On the bench:

    Strikers: Gomez
Mids: Goretzka, Rudy,Mueller, Ozil, Sane, Draxler
    Defenders: Henrichs, Rudiger, Mustafi/Sule
    Goalie: Stegen, Trapp

This formation allows to counter acttack better. Ozil and Mueller can be helpful in squad rotations. It depends on the opponents to put one more strong DC and take out Brandt.
Choosing Mustafi or Sule for the last spot will be decided after the next season.

It's way too early to write off anyone. These players are not even 30 yet and they've won the WC only three years ago. And winning a Confed Cup doesn't suddenly turn the new guys into top players with nothing left to prove.

Müller had one mediocre club season and suddenly he's worthless? A 27-year-old who is just now reaching his prime age? No active player has more WC goals than him (currently 10 goals, 8th best scorer of all time). Miro Klose is no. 1 in the WC top scorer list despite having a really mediocre club career, not just one season like Müller.

No one even mentions Götze anymore. He could be back to his old self after his metabolic disease has been dignosed and treated successfully. He's still only 25. Not even at the peak age for footballers yet. Draxler has never been as good as Götze as his best. Löw should stop playing Götze out of position, though.

There's a full club season to play before the World Cup. Who knows how Müller, Özil, Gündogan, Reus and Götze will perfom? These are all great players who have proven themselves at the highest levels, and none of them are too old.
