Yeah, if we don't win the Euro, whatever, we won the World Cup and we'll win another one on the way. But priority is to destroy both Italy and Spain.
German media is again clueless ... "golden generation" all over the place. Golden generation is a term applicable to minnow teams or middle-of-the-road teams but not for the three superpowers of world football (Brazil, Germany, Italy). These might have a weaker generation now and then (like Germany 10 years ago or Brazil and Italy right now) but the normal state is a very strong group of players that can always be expected to win something. It's just back to normal business!
That's exactly my thoughts. Particularly before this WC, I thought the term "bronze generation" would be more apt. Winning the WC is of course special, even for Germany, but it's not that it's one golden generation, it's not extraordinary as with Belgium for example which went from not qualifying to dark horse, rather, we went from contender to actual champion.
Germany losing 1-0 to Brazil at half time to top their group after a making a 1-5 comeback. Oh, you didn't know? Canada is hosting the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup. Germany beat the USA 2-0 and tied China 5-5. They are on the road to being WC Champs!
Germany, Brazil, USA, China sounds like a ridiculously tough group in women's football, at least on paper. Similar to a group that consists of, say, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Brazil in male or shemale competitions.
The U20 grils reached the semi-finals after a 2-0 vs. Canada. There they will face the winner of France - South Korea (kick-off in 3 hours). Title holder USA meanwhile lost after penalties vs. North Korea.
The final will be a rematch of the 2010 final which was won 2-0 by Germany. While Nigeria is hardly even a mediocre side in senior football, their youth teams are very strong and not to be underestimated.
Rumors say the reason is their youth teams are packed with adults because days of birth are not taken that serious there.
And Germany won again. Three final tournaments entered, three trophies won! Fantastic summer overall for German football and its fans. Although this time they were REALLY lucky to win the final. But hey, I take a lucky win over an unlucky and undeserved loss every day.
