Woah it seems like the Greens are willing to sell their souls for becoming part of the new govt. State of the news is they offer to accept 200k limit on refugees per year

Hard to tell. Dont think they would have much to lose or win and probably stay right where they are. The leading personnel probably has much to lose though.

    To put this into perspective:
Thats like against the founding princples of the party and possibly comparably republicans agreeing to higher taxes for the rich

Can I use this thread as just general election news in Germany?

This election to me seemed simple but confusing..even though Merkel and the CDU/CSU won a plurality 32% they suffered a major defeat because of a big swing % wise away from them because of the backlash to Merkel immigration policy I assume. SDP seems hopeless and the biggest winners seem to be the xenophobic and racist AfD and the Neo-liberal Free Democrats. What seemed to happen is that many more conservatives members of the CSU the Bavarian socially conservatives faction of CDU were upset with Merkel and with the more leftward direction of the CSU and rebelled and jumped ship to the AfD..or am I wrong there.

Having spent some time in Berlin for a couple of months in 2018 (and yea I know Berlin is super alternative lefty and not representative at all of Germany) people there seemed more prone and supportive of the Left party with their socialist and neo-Marxist lingo but what struck me was that economically they were very leftist but culturally or socially seemed very conservative and at times xenophobic light weight racist lol.. the Greens were part and parcel with every green in Western Europe.

Is this resurgent of the right wing in Germany temporary (question for Germans who live there) or has the right wing always been there but they haven't had a legal or respectable party before to channel their anger and votes to before the AfD..
