That's what happens when BS search is broken. A Google site:bigsoccer.com didn't pull up that old thread.
@bungadiri -- Can we combine these 2 threads? http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/george-acosta-in-argentina.2014320/
Called up for the U15s again, this time to South America: http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-soccer-articles/roster-revealed-for-us-u15-bnt-trip_aid36589
@Friedel'sAccent spilled his Long Island Iced Tea into the search engine during the office party last week. Some people just can't hold their frou-frou drinkie-winkies.
Named to U15 camp in England: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2015/08/05/14/34/150805-u15bnt-eng-training-camp-roster-rel
Some background on his "team" in Argentina: Similar situations are playing out elsewhere as well. Art Acosta’s son, George, plays for the United States under-15 national team. In a news release earlier this year, U.S. Soccer identified George’s club team as Estudiantes de La Plata, a top club in Argentina. In truth, according to Art Acosta, his son was training in Estudiantes’ youth system but playing for a semi-affiliated “second team,” which did not require him to have a FIFA-approved registration. After seeing the difficulties talented youth players were having becoming registered in Europe, he had decided “to go south” in search of a club for his son, a powerful attacking midfielder. He thought it would be easier. He quickly found it was not. “Before all this there were loopholes everywhere and you could go anywhere,” he said. “Now, it’s literally impossible.” http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/01/s...ules-sidelines-young-players-abroad.html?_r=0
Not surprisingly, he has returned to the US: George Acosta (Weston FC; Hollywood, Fla.), http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2015/10/30/21/45/151030-u15bnt-bradenton-camp
This is from June piece, but: And, now what’s next for the summer? Well, we are on vacation now. I keep training by myself or with my Weston club. Right now I’m going to rest for three weeks. Later, I would travel to Germany to do some tests with the Red Bull Leipzig team. And I might travel to Argentina because the Banfield team from Buenos Aires wants to see me play. Another interested team is the Seattle Souders FC of the MLS. http://www.soccerplus.us/from-weston-to-the-u-s-national-team-george-acosta-talks-through-his-goals/ (H/T USAProspects on Twitter.)
George turned 18 five days ago, and with the youth summit ending three days ago, he probably should be somewhere right now. If you're up for a Xuxuh-style chase then this is probably the current subject.
If they get promoted and they have a legit shot at PT i like it. If its another Akale situation I say bad move.
kid has all the talent in the world, would really like to see him move over there and perfect his craft
Based on today's instagram story, George is currently in Argentina with a couple of Boca Juniors players. http://www.inferioresplatenses.com.ar/noticia/por-la-recuperación-ante-boca Here's an article from today that has him starting in an '00 game vs Estudiantes.
U.S. U17 MNT World Cup vet George Acosta has signed with Boca Juniors, per a source. He'll start out with the reserve team.— Travis Clark (@travismclark) April 5, 2018
This seems... significant. Will be interesting to see what kind of opportunities he gets. Starting with the reserve team and not the youth teams seems like a good start, no?
Already have a thread for George: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/george-acosta-in-argentina.2014320/#post-31518405 @bungadiri, can we get these threads merged? Thanks!
No worries. I thought I could merge them myself, but I don't see an option for it. We'll get it taken care of. Sounds like a great opportunity for George, though!
