whose the best defender at the club now? It wasn't so long ago that it was Robert Huth right, (before he moved).
CM with Fletch and Allen. Late 2nd half, Diouf enters for Fletcher, pushes Allen back with Geoff. 2-1 Stoke, 75'
I watched this one, ugh. As one of my favorite players, he had his typical game. is definitely not your typical holding mid, lacks the marking/spacing discipline and tons of ball watching. But..... he's such a workhorse athlete that he makes up for alot of it. 1st half had some really nice moments, making moves with the ball and looks to play 2 great balls forward that just went heavy. Got lots of claps from the home fans. Tense stadium atmosphere, good noise from Potters fans. Involved in the 1st goal by winning/1 touching a loose ball forward that led to the break. 2nd half he sat back more due to the lead. Just really uncomfortable watching sometimes, played his zone defense style where he just floats around mysteriously. Wasn't very involved but kept ahold of the lead for the huge 3 points. Interesting moment very late in the game, with 2-1 lead, instead of easily standing up a player to prevent a break he tries to jump in and gets easily turned...super undisciplined. But as he typically does, moments later he jumps a dangerous pass and breaks up play. Overall, played 90' in huge 3-1 win in CM. Mixed results for me.
Oatcake quotes from the game: - Cameron adds more solidity to the mid-field. - He's a steady Eddie is Geoff. Gets about, puts his foot in, I like him as a player. Looks shit without a beard though. - Bayern praising Cameron, it’s a Christmas miracle. (Funny inside joke on oatcake) - Thought he had a very good game yesterday. - He's always been quite decent at shielding the defence and also nicking the ball off the opposition and he also helps us have a bit more mobility in the middle. I think he's got a pretty decent reading of the game and often seems to be making timely interceptions, breaking down opposition attacks and generally doing a lot of the hard graft and dirty work which can go unnoticed. Having said that, he's far from technically gifted. He's not going to go on lung busting runs driving us forward and he's not going to spray the ball about and place it on a sixpence for the forwards/wide players. Cameron is a player who fits the EPL better than any other place. He's fast, he's strong, and has the stamina of a mule.
Geoffrey went 90 in a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield. Began at his best position of cdm, but again had to accommodate Stoke and their lack of options in dropping to CB when Shawcross was injured. Versatility remains blessing and curse. Of course these matches are hard to find now since NBC Sports added their Gold Package. Here's a present to reciprocate the bourgeoisie with this Boxing Day.
He had about 6 opportunities to knock the ball away from the guy who ultimately passed to the scorer, and failed, and then chased him (slowly) from behind into the box. Thankfully he didn't scythe the player down in the box, but he did catch up to him, and once again failed to clear the ball, which was slotted to Ince who scored. Looked a bit less than top notch on that play.
It'd be great if he remains with the club for a few more years. I can't see him getting a lot of $$$ if he returns to MLS, so might be far better to try and stick it out with Stoke. Even retire there.
Yeah, he had inside position but stepped towards the cross so ball wound up on Rudiger's head just behind him.
Turned game back on just in time to see Geoff concede a PK that is converted. 4-0 at 73'. Good news is that they will hold Chelsea to single digits.
Definitely at fault for the 1st goal, at least shares alot of the blame. He was in no mans land, didn't even jump. 4th goal, PK, obviously is on him but he was put in terrible situation. Shouldve booted it instead of trying to put it past the on rushing Willian. A bit unfortunate but still.
