by headgear, I assume they mean the clear face shield they often use for broken noses, eye-sockets, cheekbones, etc - I remember him declining to strap one of those on - which he may have regretted when he stopped a shot with his face during the next game Nice enough little piece even though watching it means fox news has likely hidden a cookie on my machine
Satisfying to see this kind of article in the media in a rival team's city. The Union’s best possible playoff berth could give them the worst possible opponent: Wayne Rooney’s D.C. United http://www2.philly.com/philly/sport...elphia-union-new-york-red-bulls-20181015.html
I'm not sure why Philly would be nervous, they've already manhandled the Rooney-led team at their fancy new stadium
Funny, I'd almost rather play NYC because of the way Philly played us with Rooney. We do better against teams that come at us and attack. Is there any chance we could be the #4 seed and get the knockout game at home?
We stunk during that game. Philly wasn't great. We were just sleep-walking. But, Philly's been winning. But, NYCFC would be up in Yankee Stadium. But Atlanta plays on Astro Turf. There's no good option for us.
Yes. Philly and nycfc play each other. One/both of them will finish with 53 pts and ahead of us on wins. 5th is possible Would have to beat out columbus, who have an easy schedule. NYCFC is not a great team, but they are still tough to beat at home.
Great stuff. Sebastian Salazar apologizes to Wayne Rooney in person ESPN's Sebastian Salazar was an early critic of Wayne Rooney's move to D.C. United, but a chance to interview Rooney meant a chance to apologize. http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=25092006
Sebastian Salazar is generally unstable. Enjoyable to read at his best. Streaming expletives and nonsense at his worst.
huh? I really don't get "unstable" I've never heard him curse. Doesn't mean he's never done it, but I have listened to many many hours of him talking over the years. He has opinions. His opinion on Rooney was garbage. To be fair none of us expected Rooney to be this great.
I don't specifically remember what we looked like in early 2004, but the first half of 1996 we were hot garbage. https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...is-making-mls-history-recalling-club-history/
not to mention it was the first year in a stadium.....just saying... '96 started out with a 2-9 record before stringing together a few wins. Most memorable for me was storming the field (some tried to go over the first-base dugout roof and found themselves in a precarious position!) after the conf semi-final win over the metro-scum.
Taylor Kemp retires. I really liked his game. Pretty cool he's walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostela https://www.blackandredunited.com/2018/11/7/18068490/dc-united-taylor-kemp-announces-retirement
Sorry to see how his injury lingered on and on. When healthy, he was a solid consistent defender. But our biggest need is still at least ONE Center Back who is also good with the ball at his feet.
I just remember we had a pretty deep squad. I don't remember thinking we were as pathetic as I thought we were earlier this year.
2004 was up and down. Convey left midseason. Moreno had returned from NY -- originally to retire in a DCU shirt after back surgery, instead he won a starting job and should have been MVP. Etch and Stoichkov were gone. Earnie Stewart was in his last year and put as many balls in Row ZZ as NDL on a good day. What jelled for that team was a strong spine with Rimando, Nelsen, Carroll and Kovalenko. Alecko got better as the season progressed and Gomez was the glue that put it all together at the end. Without Gomez, that DCU team doesn't win the Cup. There was some depth as well because Stewart was not a lock starter and in the 2004 EC Final, Nelsen was suspended for yellow card accumulation and Ezra Hendrickson took his place and held the fort admirably against a New England side with Dempsey, Noonan and Twellman.
There was an Athletic story about it last week. I don't have a subscription so can't read in full. https://theathletic.com/737910/2018/12/28/dc-united-media-rights-broadcast-deal/
If this is true it's an absolute disgrace. No one is paying $12.50 for another streaming service to watch D.C. United games. Something like ESPN+ is one thing, but FloSports???? What a joke of an organization. https://www.blackandredunited.com/2019/1/4/18167676/flosports-dc-united-broadcast-television-partner
If I get this streaming service I'm going to be watching the World Country Western Dance Championships (WCWDC). I won't have time for DC United.
