Mods may feel free to change the title, I would have used more words if I could type more betterer Or you could just let it die and fall off the page I figured this might be a good place to put random little newsbits and puff-piece stuff like this you will of course keep creating new threads instead, or letting interesting bits get lost in post-game threads, but a guy can try. Now if I could just convince someone to make one United Mania Podcast thread for the entire season ......
And yet... you gave it one? I'm confused. Sounds like we need a poll. But seriously, I think this organizational debate simply hinges on how most people use the forum. Would people rather have a few threads to follow and let them drift, or would people rather have more isolated threads on narrow topics? My observation has been that most people here like thread drift. I could be wrong.
I saw this as an aggregator for stuff that would typically have a thread per item. This way we keep all the fluff in one place. James
Yeah I can see that. It's treating threads like sub-forums, which we already do. It's fine with me. But seems like it might deserve a sticky? And a new title.
If only we could find a mod with strong opinions looking to clean up the forums? Wherever could that person be? james
Is this puff piece material? http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/...but-players-coach-ben-olsen-after-missing-ccl You should tag him.
Times' piece on Sarvas http://www.washingtontimes.com/news...s-dc-united-high-expectations-trade/?page=all
Here's the issue for me on this thread: I want to comment that the fact that they asked him to change his game a bit to compliment NDL in the middle shows that NDL WILL be the starting CM. You don't ask a guy to change his game without a plan. But see now this should belong in the offseason thread.
This week makes it hard to choose between the two threads I could have put this there as well, but talking about it however you wish now that it's here should be fine. I was a bit bothered by that as well.
You can have more than one plan. ROTFL We have a sticky thread situation at the moment, but it will resolve in a few days.

Grant Wahl has posted his annual MLS ambition rankings ... http://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2016/03/04/2016-mls-ambition-rankings Seems to me DC United is ranked a little too high. But at least United has that cartoonish new logo!
Yea, you can have more than one gameplan, where you try to fit different pieces together. This (how I read it) is trying to mold a piece, not fit it.
LA is a mixed bag. They're signings don't signal ambition they signal a dog and pony show. But the investment in youth academy - there's something to be admired. When I see that other teams are investing in training facilities , academies it really depresses me further. How far behind will we be if no investment occurs until the stadium is done.
My worry: if, as many presume, the plan is to sell the team once the stadium is complete, how likely do you really think it is that they find a buyer, let alone an ambitious buyer. I've got my doubts.
Remember, there are restrictions in the agreement regarding the sale of the club during/after the stadium process. Thx, Jay!
See also the "background" piece to Grant Wahl's MLS Ambition Rankings: http://www.si.com/article-list/mls-.../mls-ambition-rankings-new-england-revolution The fact that United was among the small number of teams which were not very forthcoming in the survey did not strike some as very surprising: Interesting stuff. Not surprised at all at which #MLS teams actually disclosed information & which ones refused to. https://t.co/2pTT7V9DnB— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) March 5, 2016
Not so much. Did you read the breakdown? It is heavily weighted toward academy and development. We have neither.
I think we could use less thread consolidation. Those mega threads end up with more lost material than separate threads with comment streams. I don't mind scrolling 10 new titles and choosing what I want to read.
Speaking of "generic"... Here's your Washington Post preview of MLS's 21st season. Two decades, and this is what we get: In Saturday's paper. Didn't even rate Opening Day. Or a complete article. Or a review of every team. Just a back-of-the-napkin A to Z list, where they only put the most critical items. Leading off with Arsenal, that MLS powerhouse year in, year out. Unprecedented, indeed. Thx, Jay!
I don't take anything soccer-specific from that. Instead, it is further evidence of the growing irrelevance of a daily print medium. When I look for analysis in any field of interest I go online to aggregate information through things like Feedly, Flipboard or just Google searches. Print is dead. Edit -- BTW, I'm 65 years old, so I'm not some millenial who didn't "grow up" with the print media.
