In other news Patrice Evra is being labled a sexist for applauding Eni Aluko on camera about her knowledge on Panama. As usual the easily offended are looking for conflict and assume Evra was doing it in some sort of back-handed way. IMO it was a bit obnouxious because he obviously was amused that a female knew that much about a specific football team or maybe just because it was a side like Panama. He geniuenly was impressed and he complimented her so he totally deserves a let off. I'd think Aluko would be flattered that an accomplished player like Evra would appreciate her knowledge. Some are now demanding he should be sacked which is nonsense.
Seriously though, why else would he be surprised that a 100-cap international footballer and qualified sports lawyer would be somewhat articulate and knowledgeable about football? I can't think of a single reason other than her being female. If he did that to Frank Lampard, everyone would have thought it was completely bizarre. Not calling for his head, but I think the mockery and contempt is justified.
Why does it always have to be framed as 'people getting offended'. It's just people saying he's a bellend. I'm annoyed at you being offended enough to be annoyed at how offended you perceive people to get over something very little.
Most of Arsenal's English players gone now (Gibbs, Ox, Walcott and Wilshere). Hopefully AMN, Nelson and Willock can be a new generation coming through.
That's actually a very fair comment. I just hope this doesn't hurt his reputation that much. Evra is one of the good guys in football. Soooo what other things annoy you?
Sturridge scored a brace against Chesterfield, including a lovely strike from outside the box for the seventh and final goal.
Delighted to have officially signed for West Ham United! After speaking with the manager and those at the club I knew my future was at the London Stadium and I can’t wait to get going now. It’s well known that I come from a family of Hammers and it’s a special moment to sign… pic.twitter.com/N5MAoh2Mmi— Jack Wilshere (@JackWilshere) July 9, 2018
The FA are considering a joint bid with Ireland for the 2030 World Cup, @martynziegler reports. Do you think this is the right move?https://t.co/HfQgi3BaLD— Times Sport (@TimesSport) September 3, 2018 I guess i’m a bit selfish and bitter at times but why share a World Cup with Nations that just despise us most of the time. I know it’s probably the only time our neighbours can qualify for a World Cup but just don’t really see it as a good idea plus I’m just not a fan of joint bids.
Maybe but I doubt sharing the World Cup will have any bearing on how they feel towards us. There will always be that feeling of contempt towards us regardless. I can also see it having a drain on our talent pool as well, there will be a massive recruitment drive by all the Home Nations team and Ireland to grab as many players as they can on the Granny rule and promise World Cup football. Cant see that as a good thing tbh.
It's a bit weird. Norn Iron have no suitable stadiums at the moment. The Republic have one. Wales have two that are big enough. The Scots aren't that better off. Really don't get the point.
There's about 10+ stadiums in Ireland with a 30k capacity. Could make it 3 in Wales with a small expansion to the Liberty. 3 big stadiums in Glasgow, plus Murrayfield. Then wouldn't take much to boost up a stadium like Aberdeen's or one of the Edinburgh clubs. Same with Windsor Park that could be boosted up to scratch. Especially for a 48 WC which will feature more games that can be played at smaller grounds. Which is before you even take into account that these places don't need loads of stadiums in a shared WC. I think it'd make an amazing tournament with an amazing way to see the different parts of Britain + Ireland, each with their own different type of feel and culture. So easy to travel around too. Worked perfectly at the Rugby WC.
Pretty sure GAA rules don't allow them to use the majority of those. FIFA has a rule about the amount of stadiums able to be used in each city for a World Cup. Looking at the 2026 rules, all stadiums have to be 40k or above.
Not quite sure about who or how it’s all financed but I’m guessing the GAA might be ok with it if it means some of there stadiums get redeveloped basically free of charge as won’t the Irish FA and Government fund most of it?
It's specifically 40,000 seats as well, so Ireland currently has two - Croke Park and the Aviva. That's more than enough for a five-country tournament though, unless they particularly want games outside of Dublin.
