🤝 Ariyibi departs#NFFC can confirm that winger Gboly Ariyibi has left the club to join Greek side Panaitolikos for an undisclosed fee. pic.twitter.com/yZNQW8Jn5Y— Nottingham Forest (@NFFC) September 1, 2019
Mid table Greek D1: not too shabby. And at least he won't have to spend the winter in Scotland. BTW, Panaitolikos are NOT fallen giants Panathinaikos, but they're about the same standard. Good news that he's got a permanent berth.
Pretty cool move. Greece has a history of financial peril in soccer (and in general) but things seem to have normalized the last few years. Hopefully no one brings a gun onto the field.
Seems like it's been a while since we've had a YA in Greece. Would Adu/Johnson at Aris be the most recent ones (and nearly a decade ago)?
It's gonna be a pain to follow him assuming the club tweets in Greek. Even if I don't read a language, it's easy to spot "Gboly Ariyibi." But in Greek, it looks something like: Γβολψ Αριψιβι And it looks like they don't tweet often (last one May 8 & no mention of this acquisition). The club site lists him as "Γκρέγκορι Αριγίμπι" which translates to "Gregory Arigiby." The name "Aribibi" also shows up.

On the plus side if you search (Panaitolikos Ariyibi) you are likely to get 0 non-relevant results... so you got that going for you! And I haven't looked into this, but for those of you with some walking around money... Watching @PAOK_FC - Panaitolikos on the go in Valencia through PAOK TV! #paokpane pic.twitter.com/INW1m6VRZR— Sotiris Siamandouras (@siamsot) August 25, 2019 Website seems dual-langue and fairly clear. https://tv.paokfc.gr/ didn't look at the costs. (edit> Looks like 4.99E per match Ala carte. Dunno if there's a subscription. I say we divide and conquer. One of us per match get us through the season.)
By golly, it's Greece" Gboly Ariyibi at Panaitolikos in D1 Pretty lame, but hopefully someone else will, ahem, take the bait
Gboly Greece Lightning: Ariyibi at Panetolikos What the Hellas! Gboly Ariyibi at Panetolikos (Greece) From the Forest to Aetolia: Gboly Ariyibi at Panetolikos (Greece)
In Greece’s top flight, 2015 U.S. U-23 winger Gboly Ariyibi made his club debut for Panaitolikos after completing a transfer from Nottingham Forest just before summer window closed. Ariyibi played the entire second half of a 3-0 loss to OFI Crete. Panaitolikos has lost each of its first three games of the Super League season. http://www.americansoccernow.com/ar...s-sharp-for-derby-sonora-scores-amp-much-more
Played 30 min in last match as sub. Next match on Sunday. Is he an answer at the wing? I wonder if he is as good or better than Tyler Boyd or Paul Arriola. https://us.soccerway.com/players/ariyibi-gregory/325282/
I stan for this guy and (until this year) always use him in FIFA career mode, but the answer to your question is an extremely emphatic "no." He's probably more in the class below like...Jonathan Lewis and Corey Baird. Fun career to follow at club level though.
Started and played 55 minutes in a 2-2 league draw v. Larisa last weekend. Panetolikos travels to the former home of Freddy Adu and Eddie Johnson on Sunday to face Aris Thessaloniki.
With two draws and three losses, looks like he's going to be another Yank circling the drain this season. "At Least It's Not the Championship: Gboly Ariyibi with Panetolikòs."
Well, since he couldn't get off the bench - or even get onto it - at Forest and never got loan bids from other D2 sides, wouldn't PT at a Champonship side be progress?
Not really. The Greek Super League is well-ranked, around the same as the Danish league, so if he doesn't manage to get himself benched, he's playing at a decent level there --comparable to the Ch'ship, but with the pressures of a top division. I prefer that. On the other hand, the average Yank fan completely overrates the EFL Championship.
FWIW transfermarkt credits him with an assist in his debut a few weeks back vs. Crete: https://www.transfermarkt.us/gboly-...226958/saison/2019/wettbewerb/GR1/verein/6418
He opened his account in the Greek Super League today scoring in the 68th minute of a 3-2 road loss to Volos NFC. Panatiolikos are currently second from bottom.
Still chugging along, still without a win after 14, with no goals in the last 4. Ariyibi has 12 appearances, 7 starts, 1 goal, and 1 assist.
