yeah i saw that 4 minutes and thought it was intriguing....in an otherwise dour US performance vs England U21s....was surprised that he was never (?) played again after that...especially considering how bad the US looked that day against English players 2 years younger...
I always thought Ariyibi had the physicality to make it as a pro and not just a bottom dweller. I thought his main issue was not following the game's plan.
Yeah and he should have started against Honduras as he looked like our best player once he came on in 2nd half
We’d love to bring him back for sure. We’re in constant contact with Notts Forest about trying to see if we can work something out. There are various nuances that don’t make it simple, but we’ll be as patient as we can be.— Alan Burrows (@Alan_Burrows) June 13, 2019 Motherwell CEO confirms that they are trying to bring back Gboly.
Or, his contract with Forest contains a wage differential that Motherwell can't cover and/or various premiums and bonuses that Forest don't want to pay, even though the new ownership doesn't want to keep Gboly either. It's the usual standoff between club and player. He'll probably wind up at Motherwell, but it'll take time for Goboly and Forest to work it out.
At least he's wanted. That is always a good thing. Motherwell is not exactly an expressway to Barca, but they get the occasional good sell-on.
Motherwell lost 1-0 to the Belfast team, but I didn't find any mentions of Gboly negotiations... There's a small issue with Celtic that is sucking up all the transfer H2O.... https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/...season-with-win-over-motherwell-38257813.html
It seems that Gboly is not going to Motherwell. They had a cup game recently and he was not there. In fact he is still at Notts... He did not travel with 1st team to Greece, as far as I can tell. "The Reds will also listen to offers for Jason Cummings, Zach Clough and Gboly Ariyibi who are all training with the Under-23s." https://www.nottinghampost.com/spor...abrilamouchihas-wasted-no-time-laying-3080772
Yes, but it seems they are bringing in a number of other players. It was always suggested Gboly was too expensive for M'well as his contract goes to 2020. Sounds like Notts hope to get a bit more for him?
It'd be better for him to go back. It always is when a player is wanted by a club, and the players they've brought in are CMs and LMs/LWs with nobody to play on the right, which is where Gboly played last season. In fact, he was their only specialist RM/LM last season. They've done a lot of early recruitment this season, but likes of Motherwell tend to bring a player or two in on deadline day. It may happen again, if Forest can't get a better offer.
The last sentence is probably how it plays out. He was well-liked at M'well, but seems to be a question of finances, but it's pretty clear the new French coach has no plans for him, so it will come down to what they can get for him.
He turned down a move to Motherwell. Here's a snippet from this article: "The 24-year-old contributed seven goals in 18 games for Motherwell and would have been a great addition to the squad, but manager Stephen Robinson revealed a return to Scotland isn’t on the cards. As per the National, Robinson said earlier this month: 'I wouldn’t think that is a possibility, no. I’ve tried very, very hard, but Gboly has indicated to me that he is looking at other things. We’ve got wide players in, and I’m very happy with the players we have.' Aribiyi could be staying at the City Ground as a result, but it’s hard to see him featuring under Sabri Lamouchi." It is also true that he didn't travel with the first team to Greece for their preseason tour, so hopefully he has a move coming.
Could see why playing at Motherwell would kinda suck, but hope this doesn't bite him in the ass. For a lot of guys, having a team in a good league who wants to play you is the exception not the rule.
From the Daily Mail, "Meanwhile, Rotherham and Oxford have expressed interest in Nottingham Forest midfielder Gboly Ariyibi. The American spent last season on loan in Scotland with Motherwell." So perhaps he will head back to League One.
Given the spectrum of leagues Americans "of note" have played in, from Malaysian to Finnish 2nd to Honduran, I'd say Scottish 1st ranks pretty highly

Interesting news about why he didn't go back to Motherwell: Interesting titbit for Motherwell fans - they wanted to sign Gboly Ariyibi permanently and were willing to offer him £3,000/week...but he won't sign because he's on more than twice that at Forest https://t.co/xj6jxebOOc— Narey's Toepoker (@Nareystoepoker) August 14, 2019 The linked article requires an Athletic sub.
Weren't they also willing to take him on loan? According to Transfermarkt he started 100% of the eligible games, played 92% of the minutes in those games and had a goal participation rate of 44%, so it'd be a surprise if they weren't. As for the pay element, "more than double" is likely to be in the 8-10,000 Sterling a week range (the Championship average is pushing 600k a year, Forest are a big club and he was signed by the previous his headcase of an owner) His Forest contract is up in June. Maybe Forest were willing to see him leave, and to play hardball about it in terms of not offering him a payoff, so he'll probably leave in January. He'l be turning 25 then, so there won't be too much professional damage to sitting it out, but if Motherwell were willing to take him on loan he's made a mistake
