Jocelyn Angloma played for Guadeloupe in the last one, so surely these two could play for these countries, maybe after they retire from France? Their parentage makes them eligible under the usual rules, if I'm not mistaken

You can't play for Guadeloupe after you've been capped for France at the Senior level.

You can, you just have to wait five years. Angloma played for France at the senior level and played for Guadeloupe like 10 years later.

It would be interesting to see them in a GC or something, but I think they would both be too old by the time they would be eligible. Like 38 or 39. Not too old if they really wanted to give it a shot though.

actually I think they changed the rule recently because of Angloma.

It's a five-year wait. Henry last capped for France on June 22, 2010, so he would be eligible for Guadeloupe on June 22, 2015... which is probably after the 2015 Gold Cup. Assuming he has any interest, the first time you'd see him for the Guads is the 2016 Caribbean Cup. At that time, he'll be 39 years old... granted, he'd still be Thierry Henry and better than most of Guadeloupe's players at that time, but it would still be sad... like Michael Jordan with the Wizards or Shaq with the Celtics.

Damn. It would be cool, but if they want to push for full FIFA membership in the future its probably better to avoid this kind of thing

    Interesting.

I don't think they'll ever be a FIFA member under the current situation. They're essentially a part of France like Alaska is a part of the U.S. and Catalonia is a part of Spain.

Remember that FIFA has more members than the UN. (208 for FIFA and 192 for UN). It means that sixteen non-independent territories serve to FIFA. For example, French Polynesia and New Caledonia are to FIFA. FIFA's rules allows.

Since Jocelyn Angloma case in 2007, CONCACAF no longer allows this!

French Polynesia and New Caledonia are not parts of France in the same way that Guadaloupe is. Kinda like how Guam and Puerto Rico have their own FA's while being part of the US, but Hawaii does not.

And that's why the "Ligue Guadeloupéenne de Football (LGF)" should change its status to apply for affiliation to FIFA. Thus Guadeloupe will have its own federation.

There's a huge difference between the political status of Puerto Rico and Guadeloupe. Puerto Rico is a commonwealth that is affiliated with the United States. They are not represented in the U.S. Senate, for example. Guadeloupe is represented in the French Senate; it is a part of France just like Aquitaine and Corsica are.

The list you posted also outlines the differences between Guad/Mart and the French territories that compete in the OFC. Guad and Mart are 'overseas departments,' while French Polynesia is an 'overseas collectivity' and New Caledonia is a 'special collectivity'... I think Guad and Mart need to get their political status changed to match FP or New Caledonia.

Not necessarily politically! If change of status there must be, it will be at the "Ligue Guadeloupéenne de football". That's what i said yesterday, isn't it?
While it's true that in the future Guadeloupe also will change its political status.
