The former SV Wehen youth player, second-squad member and Rochester Raging Rhino has seemingly returned to Germany to play for RSV Würges in the Landesliga (sixth division) Hessen. At last check (Dec. 11 2005) the club was in first place.
I was having major deja vu when you asked this question, so I figured I'd check and believe it or not, he is. There are usually a few “unknowns” at Rochester Rhinos training camp each spring, young players just out of college hoping to land their first pro contract or foreigners trying to catch on with an American team. Gabriel Cuomo is one of those players. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound forward is young (age 20) and grew up in Germany, but he has done enough in less than two weeks of practice to earn a contract with the Rhinos. Cuomo is trying to make a name for himself, just like his older brother, Rivers Cuomo, has done. Rivers, 33, is lead singer and a guitarist for the rock band Weezer, which has had chart success with hits such as Buddy Holly and Hash Pipe. It's not a waste if it makes him happy. He may not care about the money as long as he gets to play soccer. I know I'd do it if I had the chance.
They're half brothers as far as I know. Gabriel grew up with I believe the faither in Germany and Rivers grew up here.
A majority of Cuomo's family lives in the greater Rochester area. He wasn't a good player for the Rhinos and I don't think he ever saw the field in a real game. We were hoping to maybe get a Weezer concert in Rochester when he was hear. Never happened.
I heard rumors he was going to be signed by Beverly Hills FC, because, rumor had it, he said, "That's where I want to be!" P.S. - That's my least favorite Weezer song.
Cuomo rejoined his old German club, RSV Wuerges, durign the "Winterpause." http://www.rsvwuerges.de/index.php?id=15
He may have moved to SV Niedernhausen. Their web site talks about him as a newcomer but he doesn't appear on the roster page and hasn't played.
He seems to be the leading scorer for a club called FC 1934 Wiesbaden-Bierstadt. http://www.fc1934bierstadt.de/index.php?option=com_verein&view=seasons&id=58&Itemid=630 Edit:This may be in the 7th level Kreisliga, but I could be wrong as sometimes it gets difficult figuring info on these low amateur divisions.
He's not listed on the club's roster page, but Cuomo seems to be with SG Bremthal now. From December: Es spielten für die SGB: Jerome Friboulet (TW), Daniel Jaroszewski, Felix Frießleben, Andreas Schwall, Andreas Frankenbach, Sascha Friedrich (Boris Schneider 59), Manuel Haas, Gregor Martin (Marcel Wesp 70), Michael Ross (David Etmans 78), Moritz Stanek und Gabriel Cuomo http://www.sg-bremthal.de/einzelans...letztes-pflichtspiel-vor-der-winterpause.html
Still not on the roster page, still with Bremthal: http://www.sg-bremthal.de/fussball/senioren/1-mannschaft.html
