He just had a great, influential game at Anfield... one of the more intimidating fortresses in world football.

He's a GREAT FIND. Who do we credit.. Edu?

He's got maturity way way beyond his 18 years.

Such a bright new star for us. Pray, just pray...

He should start over Saka or even Laca at this point. This kid is amazing. No people will say it's only league cups or Europa but these are still professional footballers and defenders he is tearing apart. Give him a start vs wolves and let's see what he can do.

I haven't seen all the games he's played in, but from what I've seen, he gets into really good positions centrally in front of goal.

It wouldn't be Saka or Laca he'd replace. It would be Auba.

    Are we good with that?

I’m more impressed with Saka, honestly. And Laca has earned his spot.

With that said, it will be interesting to see how Martinelli pans out. He definitely is off to a great start.

Saka is good but Martinelli is better IMO.

Martinelli earns Arsenal's POTM award for October.

An 18YO who just signed with us just a few months ago!

    That's not too shabby Gabi!!

To put that in perspective, compare him to club-record-signing Pepe who's been here the same amount of time.

He’s helped make me a fan. When do you think he will return? Brazil’s best young player in a long time

December, hopefully earlier rather than later. He's been training with the other boys for a week or more now.

I have seen the things Ronaldo and Klopp and others say about this guy. I don’t think it’s just hype. I really think that they think he’s special.

Yes but it depends on if Arteta likes him or not. Our coach is a bit stubborn especially on players he didn't sign himself.

you know, I am not hearing good things about Arteta from afar. I would say he can use all the help he can get and has every reason to see if Martinelli can continue growth. Hopefully he is told to play him over vets to get a few meaningless wins

With 2 goals in 2 games to start the 2022/23 season, I thought it would be appropriate to reboot the Martinelli thread.

Something Silva 5 said in the Leicester match day thread also reminded me of a thought I had during the game. With Martinelli really seeming a lot stronger this season on the ball, I'm curious why we have him taking the majority of our corner kicks?

Seems he would make an excellent target in the box. Maybe Arteta would rather our center backs be the targets on corners? It used to drive me crazy back when RvP would take our corners.

    Thoughts?

He’s really the only right footer in the team who might plausibly provide good enough delivery.

It’s a shame that this thread title wasn’t reserved for Gabriel Jesus. But maybe somehow Gabriel Martinelli will earn the right to that moniker some day. He’s sure showing a lot of promise this season so far.

Martinelli gave a pre-match interview before tonight's UEL match and it was really refreshing. Worth a listen.

He seems so calm & collected, confident, level headed, slightly jokey and just a nice guy who's gotten really mature in the last year or two.

Plus he's become almost perfectly fluent in English... except when he said he wanted to keep groaning, when he meant growing.
