Opening a Wal-Mart store in the location wouldnt be call a large company moving to that location. I seriously doubt they are referring to retail space.
So just and FYI I took a drive through the location formerly known as banister mall this morning. It looks like they have progressed on the deconstruction since Mike’s photos. However there is nothing to crazy or exciting to report. I did have a lengthy conversion with a security officer whom is patrolling the lot and thought I might have been a thieving scrapper. As far as Wal-mart as an anchor tenant, I am pretty sure that there would have to be some sort of variance approved by the state legislature allowing them to build a new store in the same area they refused to start paying taxes in.
Yeah I actually went out Friday and took more pictures, I forgot to post the link. I had been a little skeptical of Heineman saying it was 1/3rd down, but that certainly appears true. http://kuhnscoot.multiply.com/photos/album/23/Bannister_220 Let me know if there is anything more specific I can do for the pictures, I am trying to get some up close and some far away so that you can see the progress.
I thought something similar....but driving by today before & after the kickaround, it does appear to be about 1/3 down.
I would have to disagree, from what I saw I think we are not even close to 1/3 My guess, the blue represents demolition progress:
FWIW in terms of the timeframe of things, this KC Star reader response suggests they are about 6 weeks away from the sidewalk handprints. Sounds like they may try to preserve it or have some sort of event prior to its demolition. Related story from KMBC here.
KC has come up with a new technique for the sweet torture of fans desperately wanting their SSS - watching the demolition of an old mall. Here in DC area we're a bit behind, still twisting in the wind as a state legislature decides our fate. You've been there and done that. I have a feeling that for KC, Houston, DC (and maybe Philly) this will continue to be a tortuous game of beat the clock as the sagging economy threatens the public and private financing commitments already made or in the works. In the meantime, if you're tempted to visit the RBA webcam, just say no!
http://www.backpost.net/2009/02/more-demo-less-mall.html Thad made it out to the mall for an update on demo.
It must be an interesting report. When I tried to access it at work, this is what popped up. Your organization's Internet use policy restricts access to this web page at this time. Reason: The Websense category "Sex" is filtered.
