Impressive start into the season. The team looks very good. I'm curious where you'll end in may. Greetings
http://bundesligafanatic.com/mainz-and-the-secret-of-their-success-christian-heidel/ Great article on Heidel and how he has transformed Mainz. Key excerpt: Mainz transfers Shinji Okazaki 07/13 from Stuttgart €1.5 million 07/15 to Leicester €10 million Johannes Geis 07/13 from Greuther Fürth €900,000 06/15 to Schalke €12 million Nicolai Müller 07/11 from Greuther Fürth €1.8 million 08/14 to Hamburg €4.5 million Ádám Szalai 07/10 from Real Madrid Castilla €600,000 07/13 to Schalke €8 million André Schürrle 07/09 from own academy 0 07/11 to Bayer Leverkusen €8.5 million It is not just a ‘buy low, sell high’ policy run by Heidel. The scouting network is top-class, as is the club’s own academy designed to produce talent from within (à la André Schürrle). Heidel is very skilled in the minutiae of the transfer system and the little tricks and loopholes that exist. Schürrle may have been sold to Leverkusen for €8.5 million, but his subsequent sale to Chelsea meant that thanks to Heidel, he probably brought Mainz closer to €15 million in profit. Since his appointment Heidel has been partly responsible for increasing the annual turnover from around €3 million (1992) to an estimated €78 million (2014). Those figures also take into account overseeing the move from the 20,000 capacity Bruchweg Stadium to the new 34,000 capacity Coface-Arena in 2011.
Mainz have signed Jhon Cordoba on loan from Granada CF with a purchase option for next summer. Heidel says he's a player that the team has been scouting for a while now. His strength and speed should fit the team's style of play nicely.
Another reason to support Mainz http://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/mainz-05/hat-jana-azizi-die-titel-kurven-42530124.bild.html
Yunus Malli really elevating his game right now, already up to 5 goals on the season. His hat-trick gets Mainz back on track after last week versus Schalke and further sinks Hoffenheim down the table. Great work especially on this golazo. https://streamable.com/pm55
Mainz are taking the non-traditional approach for their winter training camp this year. Instead of a sunny or tropical destination, coach Martin Schmidt has brought the entire squad up to the snowy mountains in Switzerland for some team building.
First signing of this January transfer window is 23 y/o Austrian international, Karim Onisiwo from SV Mattersburg. A versatile forward, primarily a LW but can also play on the right and as a striker. Available on free transfer, he signs a new contract until 2019. He adds further attacking depth to a team that's in good shape right now currently 8th in the standings. Malli and Muto are among the top 10 goal scorers in the league. Jairo and Clemens both have contributed nicely. Karius also continuing to grow and improve as a keeper this season. New addition from the summer, Fabian Frei hasn't played much due to injury but is expected to rejoin the team for second half of the season. Hope he's able to find his place. Mainz also have a promising talent coming up in Suat Serdar who is close to making his breakthrough with the pros.
Rumors continue to rise about Dortmund's interest in Yunus Malli. Current negotiations have the transfer fee to be around 13 Mio. Takashi Usami has been mentioned to be a potential replacement.
Jairo continuing his strong run of form and having a breakthrough campaign. Might be difficult to hold onto him this summer. Mainz certain to be getting some big offers.
Didn't like some of the theatrics in this game. But in the end Mainz got the 2-1 win at home vs Schalke, thanks to a decisive goal by Baumgartlinger. Mainz now climbs to 5th place in the table momentarily and are very much in contention for a European spot.
Huge 3-1 victory at home today against Leverkusen. Malli back on the score sheet with a brace. While Cordoba scores in his second consecutive match, playing better now with more chances in the starting XI. Mainz also climb ahead of Leverkusen into 5th place in the table with this result.
Back to back wins, as Mainz also beat Bayern Munich. Cordoba now with goals in 3 consecutive games. If he keeps this going, management will very likely finalize on his purchase option.
Mainz have signed Jean-Philippe Gbamin from RC Lens. Primarily trained as a CB, he also has the versatility to cover all positions defensively. Quality move to improve on an area where they need greater depth at. He's also a member of France's U21 NT. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...ypischer-mainz-transfer_gbamin-wird-05er.html

Gbamin showing to be a smart signing so far by Mainz. Composed on the ball, with also smooth passing and dribbling technique for a defensive player.
3-1 victory while playing away on a rainy evening in Augsburg. Back on track after draws against Hoffenheim and St. Etienne. Cordoba, Malli, and Muto with the goals. Öztunali continuing to make meaningful contributions. Jose Rodriguez with a stupid ass tackle at the end though, and rightfully got ejected with a red card. He deserves a minimum 5 game suspension for that.
Nice 3-2 comeback win against Gabala on the road. Öztunali delivering the decisive goal. Mainz are currently leveled with Anderlecht to top group C. Both clubs with 4 points a piece after the first 2 match days in EL, although Anderlecht have a slight advantage in GD.
