The little girl in the top left looks like she's plotting someone's death. I think she poisoned someone's drink.

That would be Norman Rockwell putting himself in the picture like he often did.

It would've been very surprising if he'd got more than cameo minutes with Reading this season - he's only just turned 19.

If you look at the competition he's up against at Reading, its very stiff, there's one of the top scorers in the Championship,, a sometime Portuguese NT player, a Czech NT player on loan from Watford and a Brazilian U-23 NT player on loan from Chelsea, none of whom have sucked. His main competition for cameo minutes is the top scorer in the Premiership Development League (who ironically is an English player who came from the US college system via non-league). We also have a few strikers out on loan.

In my experince you can be one of the best players in reserve Premeirship and still not be able to get minutes at Championship level. At the moment Novkovich is not even the best striker on Reading Reserves, so realistically he is not close to getting anything more than the odd few minutes for the 1st team. That's not to say that Novakovich is behind the curve - there aren't any younger strikers who would be ahead of Novakovich for minutes.

So basically he was held out of the US U-20 World Cup team for nothing.

The manager, Steve Clarke, has been sacked after only one win in 8 games. Might be good for Andrija; might be bad; most likely neither.

Mate, you know the answer. You can't be upset at the coach that Nova didn't live up to the standard necessary to get first team minutes. Be glad he was given an opportunity.

If the chances were remote, as you said, he should've been allowed to go.

I literally never said that. He didn't live up to the standard, coach obviously saw potential in him since he played him last season, so he gave him an opportunity. At the end of the day him in the first team of a club is more important than him be on the U20 World Cup team. The coach wasn't sitting in his office like "oh USA wants Novakovich? F*** them, I'm gonna not let him go and not play him this season", we should honestly be happy a young yank was given an opportunity.

Whetehr its the right or wrong decision, I get the feeling this season is seen as important as transitioning him from a youth player to a pro player and the club wanted him to spend the pre-season with the senior squad. The chances of him getting serious minutes were not high though.

He entered the game in the 56th minute. The one existing tweet about his gameplay:

Novakovich's loan expired on Jan 2. He's back with Reading now and came on as a substitute against Manchester United U21 on Jan 11.
