The right way to say would be James is a limited player and has a specific specialised role - that is a handicap in today's time.

The kind of dominant performances he has been delivering , probably deserves a better word - boss maybe ?

I think the whole limited player thing is overblown. He has played and succeeded in Madrid in several roles. He has played as a left midfielder with Modric and Kroos, played as a RW when Bale was hurt in 2014 and was spectacular and the team was clicking at all cylinders, has played well when given a free role in a 4 men midfield, etc.

The reality is that he hasn't gotten consistent playing time in any role other than when he shone on that RW spot in 2014. He plays 1 game as a RW, gets benched for 2 or 3 games, plays 1 more game in the midfield, gets benched for 2 or 3, etc.

Isco comparison is a bit unfair. Isco not only gets more consistent playing time, but in a more consistent role. Problem for James is that we don't use the position in which he clearly is better than the rest. Modric, kroos, and Isco are clearly better midfielders and on the wing, a healthy Bale will always own that spot. When Bale is hurt, we have decided to go with a 4 man midfield and add Isco, which imo is the absolute right move.

I guess im used to seeing players, such as in the nba, be willing to take lesser roles and even less money to win trophies. Superstars becoming third wheels, starters becoming rotation bench players, just to win.

I guess that culture doesn't exist in futbol.

Bringing up the NBA, NFL or MLB is like bringing up apples and oranges and pineapples.

There is a certain dynamic and dichotomy in futbol that you do not get in other sports. Playing for your National team is very important and being able to win International competitions with your country can be even more important.

James knows that what is best for him and for his country is to become the main player (or a main player) and develop his skills as a starter not a secondary role or a bench player.

NBA players don't have to worry about that, even in the Olympics. The USA knows they will kick arse no matter who they suit up in Japan 2020 and there is not much competition.

He has been misused many times just like Isco. Then ppl complain how he is inconsistent (same as with Isco). In best case Zizou stays with this 4312 formation and then there is actually no reason to sell James. He and Isco can share the minutes behind Ronaldo and unfortunately Benzema (Mbappe??). Isco can play part of the 3mans midfield too, so James and Asensio for the #10 spot. I

Let's think of a different example then. Ozil is apt because he was sold at the same age as James is now.

If Ozil had the choice between his current role at Arsenal or James' role at Madrid, which do you think he would choose? I guarantee you he picks Madrid. He's playing every minute at Arsenal supposedly "improving his development," yet he's not going to win a thing. Has he even really developed much more than what he was when he was playing with us? Would he have lost his status on the German national team if he had stayed? No to both of these questions.

There are different examples that point to different results
Look at Robben. He left Real Madrid and got a bigger role and was used correctly in a system that fit his skill set. He eventually won a Champions League, went to a World Cup Final and became the main man for both his Club and Country.

This is true in a sense that James is struggling to live with a band of superstars at Real Madrid. He is better off to a lesser team where he can be the biggest star. Carlo never wanted him - he actually wanted Di Maria to stay, true story. Benitez didn't want him, ZZ wanted him out last year. The writing is on the wall - long time ago.

Modric, Kroos and Isco were all 10s who started higher up the pitch. Isco has been jerked around here for years playing anywhere across the front 3 and in mid. Point is all 3 players adapted to the new game, James can't do that. Not in a 433. He's a luxury player just like Ozil would have been in our current 433.

People need to stop making excuses for him, just like excuses were made for Isco until put in the work and made the most of his minutes. James was literally handed a starting spot here based off the World Cup. He's had plenty of opportunity.

Isco is making zz change formations. James does too sometiems.
Why do people here insist with the team sticking with the 433 in all games when that is definitely not the case.
James can stay and it will only be a problem for Asensio . That's about it.

Glad we won the title and he became the first Colombian ever to win la liga.

Falcao won Ligue 1, Cuadrado Serie A.

Many you will disagree, but guys like James, Asensio, Kova, and Morata all deserve credit for this league title. Kudos to all of them as well for their contributions.

Good luck to James wherever he ends up

Deserve credit? I'd say they were the reason we won the league. Our squad depth and quality is our main strength.

Exactly. Zidane played it - almost - perfectly (Bale should not have been chucked into el Clasico for example). Even down to running the last couple of games with the strongest first xi, no more rotations.

I just hope he now does the same going into the final. A great year could become an all time great year for the club. Plus, we do not want to end on a disappointment after this current high.

How has no one addressed that in the NBA you can sub as many times as you want, so even if you don't start you can still play a ton.

It's obviously not like that in futbol

And in his first season he did very well, took that opportunity and ran with it, it's not like he got the chance and did nothing at all

He's Latino with lighter features is probably the most accurate description.

I keep thinking White Latino or Mestizo. Because I know he's not brown but Latin americans tend to be often Mestizo.

Apparently James to Inter is imminent

Not sure if I like it or not. Italy is a great fit, but that team is a mess
