FWIW, David Martin (the keeper in front of Cropper most of the year) was named MK Dons' player of the year and it appears he's coming back. I'm not sure if it's in Cody's best interest to spend another season in the back up role. I imagine that's what the staff will offer him when they meet (which should be any day now). I know he's familiar with the Minnesota ownership group, have to think being their keeper in 2017 sounds appealing right now.
I think that makes sense though Minnesota have a pretty good keeper in Sammy Ndjock, who has been a full national for Cameron and is probably the best keeper in NASL.
BREAKING! #mkdons has decided not to exercise the option in @codycropper_22's contract: https://t.co/XQt3ENAG15 pic.twitter.com/x8DUYGmYYL— Milton Keynes Dons (@MKDonsFC) May 25, 2016 The Club would like to thank @codycropper_22 for his contribution and wish him every success in the future. pic.twitter.com/HXao9tk4aH— Milton Keynes Dons (@MKDonsFC) May 25, 2016 Tough break. Expect him to land on his feet and hopefully improve on his decision making with some regular PT
in the interim sure hope that he finds some minutes somewhere in 2016: http://sbisoccer.com/2016/05/cody-cropper-set-to-be-released-by-mk-dons Earlier this year, Cropper told Northern Pitch that he would be interested in a move to MLS with either Minnesota United or Atlanta United. Neither team is set to play until 2017 at the earliest
MN United has Cameroonian Sammy Ndjock between the pipes. He's repped his home country a couple of times and was the 3rd GK on their 2014 WC roster. Good pedigree and has played with several mid-level Turkish Super Liga sides. But.......... I've watched him twice on BeIN's Sports NASL coverage and he is awful! Like a ton of GK's from the CAF region --- he's athletic, big, and strong but wild and unpredictable. Ndjock comes barreling off his line at inopportune times, has brick hands but will turn around and make a crazy athletic save. he's just not consistent. I think Cropper could give Ndjock a run for his money right now -- no question. I would be all over him if I were MN United. Then you can have him while you transition into MLS.
For the past several weeks, Cropper has been training with NASL-soon-to-be-MLS Minnesota United FC, his hometown club. Not great in distribution or controlling back-passes (the one at Brazil in October 2014, yikes), but I don't see how a typical keeper at NASL level could be much better than a guy who puts up a performance like this against Fulham with a subpar team around him.
Was about to be signed by Tony Meola and Jacksonville Armada of NASL, but the deal fell through when Meola got fired. Meola out in Jacksonville, move comes just as the Armada were going to sign GK Cody Cropper. That deal is dead now. https://t.co/b7qdb2oLEp— Ives Galarcep (@SoccerByIves) August 7, 2016
i thought he wanted to play for Minnesota or Atlanta next season. Could he just find a loan until theyr ready?
Signs with New England #NERevs sign @codycropper_22: https://t.co/ZXltuzmzRL pic.twitter.com/XSJW4M0HbN— New England Revolution (@NERevolution) August 18, 2016 Not a bad spot for him. The Revs are weak in the GK department. He'll have an easier road to winning a starting spot there than he would elsewhere in the league.
Now seems like a good time to tell you all that Cody Cropper was not extended a contract offer by the #NERevs Heard Nashville was among the #MLS clubs interested in him this fall, but he's also keen to try Europe.Sarpsborg in Norway wanted him in August, but deal fell through— Julian Cardillo (@JulianCardillo) November 25, 2019
